MASwings flight MH 3018 from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu

Thursday 14th of September 2017 and I had asked the driver id he knew any vape shop when we drove to Tanjung Aru Beach/ Prince Philip Park this morning. He told me that we would go look Famous vape in Kota kinabaluwhen we drove back to the hotel.

So now we drove towards the town, first vape shop was closed. But the second, FAMOUS VAPE was open. We parked the taxi and I went to the shop.

I bought two bottle of “STRONG” e-juice and I also bought two new e-cig. They only had fruit flavour so I had to buy chocolate, otherwise I would have prefer the tobacco flavour.

But I need something strong as the Captain on Rosa Mærsk made me start smoking again with all our “PEP” meetings.

They had the same model of e-cigarettes I bought a few years ago and as I liked that model I got 2 of them.

The stop at Famous Vape Shop set me back by 340 ringgits. So it was not very expensive. I said good bye and I left, chocolate juice, could have been better but I had planned to mix it with my Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sttobacco flavour so it will be like a chocolate cigarette. Chocolate cigarettes are banned now, but we had them when I was a child. A stupid idea and you had to peel of the paper before you could eat the chocolate.

We drove back to Ming Garden Hotel and Residences and I was happy with my day, of course, after the hornbill experience there are no reaso NOT TO BE happy. I will come back early morning when I come back to Kota Kinabalu. Original plan was to go to Kota Kinabalu City Bird Sanctuary or KKCBS. Well, as I use to say, we will see.

But change of plan, first the Tanjung Aru Beach/ Prince Philip Park and after that I will go to the Kota Kinabalu City Bird Sanctuary. I had 2 hours to kill in my room before it was time to leave for the airport. I called room service and I had tea and toast in my room.

It took 10 to 15 minutes to get to Kota Kinabalu International and I had about 90 minutes to kill in the lounge before it was time to board MASwings flight MH 3018 from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu. Kota Kinabalu International looked to be a brand new airport. I walked by the immigration as I was flying with in Sabah, the Malaysian part of Borneo.

MASwings flight MH 3018 from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu will depart from gate A15 and MAS lounge are located at gate A10. So it will not be very far from the lounge when it is time to board. I entered the lounge and I set up my computer.

I went to get something to drink and I started to look at the pictures from the birding at the Tanjung Aru Beach/ Prince Philip Park in the morning.

The lounge was nice, well, no Pepsi MAX. But there were some food that I never tried. I just had a fizz drink, well, almost two before it was time to leave for gate 15A. Time passed very quickly in the lounge and I was in a good mood when I left. And I'm looking forward to a very short flight, of course, this improved my mood by several notches. I walked towards gate 15A.

There are only directions for gate 13A and I was worried when I walked to the MAS Gold lounge. But approaching the lounge I discovered a sign saying GATE A11-A19 and an arrow down. So we will have to walk over the tarmac to board the plane. Exciting, there will be opportunities to get some pictures of the airplanes

Boarding worked very well. I took the escalator to a waiting room and I went out the door marked gate A14 to A16. They asked for my boarding pass at the door and I went out. Seems like I was the first to get out the door because all the other passengers left their chairs and walked towards the door.

I was not first on board as I took my time to take pictures and having a look around. The Business Class section is the last 2 rows in the airplane. 8 seats and we were 2 passengers. And I think that they only take 4 passengers so it was quite comfortable in the back. Boarding in the back so we were first on board and we will be the first to get off the plane when we arrive to Lahad Datu.

Otherwise the flight was almost full and I thanked God that I had spent the 80 ringgits extra to sit in the back. We taxi out to the runway and we were soon airborne and I enjoyed the view of Borneo while flying over the green landscape. I was surprised, they served food and I was very hungry so this was a bonus.

Some chicken skewers or whatever they call it. A cake and some peanuts, together with a bottle of water and I was full when we arrived to Lahad Datu.50 minutes or so in the air and we were soon descending to Lahad Datu airport. I will be at Tabin Wildlife Resort in 2 hours or so.

Tabin Wildlife Resort is waiting for me

I got my luggage and there was a girl waiting for me. We went in to Tabin Wildlife Resort's office next door. I filled up a few papers and we were soon in the jeep bound for the Tabin Wildlife Resort some 90 minutes away from the airport.

We left Lahad Datu behind and after a while wi left the paved road. Now we had 24 km to go on a gravel road through the palm oil plantations. We had not been on the gravel road for long before I asked them to stop. The same bird I had seen in the Prince Philip Park back in Kota Kinabalu earlier this morning was sitting on the wire.

In Kota Kinabalu there had been a big group sitting on a branch, but now it was a lonely bird. Otherwise we only saw a Kingfisher, of course, there were millions of the pacific swallow flying around. We arrived to an area where they have prepared for new palm oil trees. I spotted several Great Egrets and Waterhens in the area.

We passed through a gate, well, it was a boom across the road and we entered Tabin Wildlife Reserve. The Tabin wildlife reserve is the size of two Singapore I was told.

We passed the gate and we drove on the road towards Tabin Wildlife Resort. On our left hand side we had the palm oil plantation and on the right hand side we had the forest. We had not been driving for long before we spotted people on the road looking up a tree with cameras and binoculars. I swung myself out of the car to investigate.

Right in to a new bird, a White-crowned Hornbill, a bird I had never seen before. So this was a very good start, early in the morning the Oriental Pied Hornbill and now the White-crowned Hornbill. This is really promise to be an exciting stay.

We stopped just at a very beautiful tree and I had a fee pictures before we left the area for Tabin Wildlife Resort.

We arrived to the Tabin Wildlife Resort just after 6 o'clock. Dinner at 7 and I put my bag in my room. The room looked very nice and I'm sure I will enjoy my time here in Tabin Wildlife Reserve. I went for dinner and well, could have been better. I had soup and rice as the chicken was typical Asian styled. Take a chicken and smash it to pieces with a heavy hammer. Then cook it and all the bones remains.

Well, soup and rice was OK and I had them to make hot water and I had my own Earl Grey tea to drink. I spoke with my Guide and we will start to look for birds and Orangutans at 6 thirty tomorrow morning. He also gave me a schedule:
06:00 Tea and toast
06:30 Morning tour
08:30 Breakfast
09:00 to 10:00 Another tour
15:30 to 18:00 Afternoon tour
- WOHA WOHA!! Hold it right there Buddy Boy! I said

I have rented a car for 3 days and if we were going to follow their schedule we could as well have stayed in our rooms. I told him that we would take off at 6 thirty, back at 11 and then we would leave at 3 o'clock in the afternoon again. We agreed on this and I said good night. I retired to my room and I had a look at today's pictures before going to bed.

The dinner, not the best I have had, far from it. But I was full and I was looking forward to my bird watching adventure tomorrow. No Pepsi MAX and this will Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully help me to fall asleep. And it will be a boost for my health. Anyway, if you want to know what we see in the wilderness tomorrow you just have to click HERE.
