Tuesday 9th of March 2021 and I met my Guide from CYPRUS BIRD WATCHING TOURS on the street at 6 o'clock and we were soon on the way to the eBird hotspot: Akrotiri Marsh.
Not so many birds as last time we were here and many of the birds might have left Cyprus.
And we could see hundreds of Teals flying around in groups so the might disappear early tomorrow morning or in a few days as it seems like they are preparing for leaving for breeding grounds in Europe. So this might have been the last we have seen of them for this spring.
But they will be back in autumn and they will arrive with their new babies.

We drove along the water / wetland between the road and the reeds. It was far from as many birds as last time. But this was nothing bad as I could take pictures of birds that was alone in the pictures. But there were hundreds of Coots sitting together and I got out of the car. I went through the cattle gate and I entered the field.
One cow was on the way down to the water and suddenly all the Coots got startled. And I don't know if it was due to me or the cow. There was also one Marsh Harrier coming down to “SNIFF” on the Coots and that even scared the Coots even more

We left the March behind and we drove along the Akrotiri Gravel pits. Not many birds in the area. Marsh Harriers and one Golden Plover. We also spotted several Kentish Plovers. So we spent almost an hour at the Akrotiri Gravel pits

High water levels so we had to drive around the whole salt lake to reach the eBird hotspot: Lady's Mile. I was not interested to go there. But it was strong wind so we decided to go look for gulls in one of the ponds. There will be no gulls in the sea because of the strong winds.
Last time we were at the eBird hotspot: Lady's Mile there had been plenty gulls in the pond.
We were lucky and there were gulls in the pond, and we were also lucky that we could drive all the way down to the water. And I was lucky again, turned out to be Armenian Gulls.
I have seen them before, but only very far away. Now they were standing just a few meters away and they did not mind me taking pictures.
Armenian Gull, Larus armenicus
There were about 50 pink Flamingos in the pond. There were also a group of Black-winged Stilts standing in the water. And in the middle of the stilt group there was one Black-tailed Godwit foraging. Most likely in good lee from the strong wind.
There was also two Little Egrets fighting with each other on the opposite side of the pond.

We leave the pond and we reach Lady's Mile Roundabout a few hundred meters away. There is a puddle and I spot one Little Ringed Plover and we stop to try to take a few pictures.
I was happy with the pictures and we drove back to the Lady's Mile. I told my Guide to take us out of there as there was no birds

We had our picnic lunch at the Lady's Mile and then we took off to the eBird hotspot: Germasogeia Reservoir (Φράγμα Γερμασόγειας). There was not many birds at the dam. I got a picture of the Meadow Pipit. They will open the restaurants today, only outdoor seating.
So we decided to call it a day and we went to Paphos to look for a restaurant.
The Italian restaurant was closed so we went to the mall to see if there was any interesting restaurants. Already when we approached we could see people at the balcony outside the restaurants. So it looks like we will get food.

The food was very good and no need to eat anything tonight as I was full when we left the mall. My Guide dropped me at my apartment with the juice I had bought at the mall.
I spent the night in my room and I was off to bed at 21 thirty with my alarm set to go off at 4 o'clock. My Guide will pick me up at 6 and we will drive to Cape Greco. Click HERE to find out if we find any birds at Cape Greco.
