Wednesday 17th of March 2021 and I met my Guide from CYPRUS BIRD WATCHING TOURS on the street at 6 o'clock. Black sky and I hope we get sun shine by the time we reach Cape Greco. I started my eBird app at 07:56 and the sun is shining, but the wind was very strong.
We started where we had started last time. Looking for the Cyprus Wheatear but we only spotted a Northern Wheatear. Coming down to our bushes and we spotted a new bird for me, the beautiful
Cretzschmar's Bunting. There was also one Cyprus Wheatear.
Chukar Partridge
We go back and we go down to the bushes on the other side of the rocks. Last time we were here there was a lot of warblers in the bushes. We park the car in front of the bushes and we have a couple of Spectacled Warblers flying in and out from the bushes.
And it looks like they are building or having a nest.
We also see the Common Chiffchaff, Subalpine Warbler and Sardinian Warbler. There is also a group of the beautiful Cretzschmar's Bunting and a Blue Rock Thrush.
We drive around the bushes and when we are back on the road and we continue out to the Ayioi Anargiroi Church on the way to the Pic Nic Site at the end of the road.
We spot a Western Black-eared Wheatear and we are losing the bird, but when we look for the bird we discovered one Masked Shrike.
A little too far away for pictures. The bird took of and after a while we managed to get close to the bird. So close soI could make a recording of the Masked Shrike song.

Remarks from the Recordist
Recorded with my ZOOM H5 Handy Recorder. High Pass Filter applied and "CRACKS" and "POPS" removed with Audacity.
We had been chasing the bird for a long time. We found it again and the bird was not scared at all and we could get pictures.

We left Cape Greco and we stopped at my Guide's “SECRET LAKE” and we walked to a nice small lake. My Guide spotted two Common Kingfishers but they took off before I could see them.
We stopped at the eBird hotspot: Ayia Napa (Αγία Νάπα)--Football Fields. There was not much birds and my Guide wanted to continue. I said duck it!
- Let's call it a day!
- Lets go drink tea! Are there any 5 star hotels? I asked
We checked internet and we choose Four Season in Limassol. The opened all restaurants and bars yesterday, but only outdoor service allowed. So we wanted a nice place with a 5 star hotel styled terrace as it started to rain, heavy rain when we left Ayia Napa.
We found Four Seasons in Limassol and we found the cafe. We ordered tea and coffee + snacks.

I was full when we left Four Seasons and I will not have to eat anything tonight. Tomorrow it is the day of from bird watching so I will entertain myself birding around the Paphos Lighthouse Area. So just click HERE to see if I will see any birds tomorrow.
