Wednesday 31st of March 2021 and they asked me for my ticket when I tried to enter the airport. I told them that I had an electronic ticket but they required me to show a ticket. Stupid! What’s the purpose for an e-ticket then?
Check in is not open and no place to sit. I go to buy a juice and I see that they are selling salmon & omelette wraps and when I have finished my snack they have opened the check-in for Lufthansa flight LH 1277 to Frankfurt.
I check-in and I ask for an empty row of seats and as the flight is not full the girl manage to get me an empty row so I can stretch my legs in case of the restless leg syndrome.

Security was a quick affair and I went to look for the lounge. I was informed that there was no lounge at the airport and I went to take a seat. Suddenly I had a Waiter next to me and he sked if I wanted anything to eat and he arranged for a big glass of tea. I ended up with two excellent sandwiches as well.
Sitting in the departure hall drinking tea and one sparrow flew to the doors to the smoking terrace. I was really in pain for the bird flying in to the door, but, just before the bird hit the door it turned sharp right and flew a circle and out through the door that had opened when the bird activated the door sensor.
I was about to fall off the chair!!!! I pointed at the door asking the Waiter if the bird made it. He told me that the bird always do that, fly by to activate the door opening and then make a circle and fly out. Seriously, I still cannot believe what I just saw.

We have to go to the plane with bus, and I suspect all flights are boarded via buss as I cannot see any walk bridges at the airport. I was on the first bus and I was seated and I could see the rest of the passengers climbing up the stairs to get on board
I always ask for an extension when I board my flights. Even if it is not necessary as it is more comfortable. And I have been impressed on all the latest flights with Lufthansa. The cabin crew are like Magicians. The walk down the aisle to deliver the “LARD BELT” and it is like the belt just appear from their shirt sleeves. Very discrete and no one else even notice what is going on.
Other flights on different airlines and the cabin crew walk down the flippin' aisle with the “LARD BELT” like a flippin' banner.

I am soon having two cups of tea in front of me. I said no thanks to the food as the two sandwiches on the airport had been enough. 2 hours and 20 minutes to Frankfurt and it was terrible, I suffered from a terrible restless leg syndrome. Otherwise I was pleased with the flight, and all the other Lufthansa flight I have had the last few week.
We arrived to Frankfurt at 3 o'clock in the afternoon here in Frankfurt. So I will have to spend 6 hours on this absolutely NO THRILL airport. I found Lufthansa’s lounge and I was surprised how quick the time passed.

No refreshments, only to sit down but I kept myself busy with my pictures and I had soon killed 5 hours and I left for the gate at 8 o'clock. The airport was almost empty by now and my flight to Sweden was for sure not full.
I was happy even though I already have arranged for my own row of seats. Departure as per schedule and I had tea and they served snacks. Short flight and we arrived to Landvetter International 1 hour 20 minutes later.
I have booked one night at Landvetter Airport Hotel and it is a couple of minutes to walk there from the arrival hall and I was in bed at 23:30 with the alarm set to go off at 6 o'clock.

Thursday 1st of April 2021 and I went to pick up my car after breakfast. Booked for 7 o'clock and I drove back to pick up my bag at the hotel and I was off towards south. One night in Helsingborg before driving to Hornborga to look for Cranes tomorrow. Of course, I will stop to explore different eBid hotspots on my way south.
Gloom and Grey and chill for long as I can see
Gloom and Grey and chill for long as I can see
Coming out from the hotel and I was disappointed, gloom and grey for long as I could see. It was a wee bit chilly as well. But I was lucky and it was blue sky and sunshine when I reached the first eBird hotspot: . I did three hot spots just south of Go:teborg.
The first hotspot, Mönster had no access for cars. So I skipped that one as I need to be on my way to some other hotspots in the south.
So I drove to Viken, Onsala a couple of minutes away and then to Råöslätten just next to the hotspot “Viken, Onsala”

By the time I reached the hotspots the weather was excellent. Sunshine and the thermometer had worked its way all the way from 3.5 °C to 6.5 °C and I enjoyed myself looking for birds in the beautiful area. Reaching Råöslätten, practically just to stop the eBird app and restart.
Not many birds, but plenty Greylag Gooses on the fields.
Sky Larks over the fields and one landed just in front of me, but as the windshield was between me and the bird the pictures were hardly good enough even for ID.
Greylag Goose / Grågås
I go to visit eBird hotspot: Råöviken but it seems to be a private area. So I drive back to the highway and I drive south towards Morups Tånge, a famous bird watching area. The weather is like summer and the thermometer are now showing 11 °C and it is still early morning.
I leave the highway and I drive towards the coast, Morups Tånge have a big lighthouse so the hotspot is just on the beach. I pass a sign saying bird watching area and I make a U-turn to go back to check it out. Turns out that this is also an eBird hotspot: Munkagårdsfloen

Bird hide

View from the hide
eBird hotspot: Munkagårdsfloen is a wetland, and I think it is man-made. There is a bird hide and a bird watching tower overlooking the wetland / ponds. I went in to the hide and I discover many slide covers for the holes.
There were wood benches so you could sit down looking out through the lower holes. I really liked the place, but today it was mostly Black-headed Gulls making noise.
There were also 2 pairs of Common Shelducks and a pair of Mute Swans. I left the hide and I had walked 10 meters when I spotted a pair of Northern Lapwings and I went back to the hide to try to get pictures but I failed. I walked back to the car and I had one White Wagtail flying over me, so spring is definitely here with the wagtails.

I drive down to Morups Tånge and I discover that the access to the beach is closed, well, of course you can go down, but from 1 April to 15 August it is a bird protection area. Of course I could have walked down to the water front. But we need to respect the wild life. There was another birder with a scope and we got to talk.
I told him that I was disappointed not to be able to get down to the beach and he gave me a lot of information. Obviously not the first time he is in the area. We left together and I followed him to the light house.

I was a few minutes after him to the light house and he had felt over a small fence and in the fall he had spotted four Goldcrests in the tree above him. And there were four of them, most likely more, but not easy to keep track of them.
They were not scared at all, they just cared about the food. But their call / song is very weak so it was not so easy but I gave it a try.

Easter and there was a lot of birders as I think it is a public holiday. And most of the birders are friendly so we were talking and I got a tip, a very hot tip! A King Eider in Laxvik just south of Halmstad. So I will pass the area on my way to Helsingborg.
I was with another Birder looking at seabirds and we also gave the Firecrest a try without any luck. We had a good time and I really enjoyed the time here at Morups Tånge

I left Morups Tånge to have a look at Gloomen next to Morups Tånge. Just to restart the eBird app and I had a look around Gloomen before I went back to the highway steering south. By now I was hungry and I decided to have a stop at Laxbutiken for some smoked salmon and dill creamed potatoes.
The food was excellent as usually and I decided to come back next week when I will revisit the eBird hotspot: Morups Tånge when coming back from the Crane Dance.

Leaving Laxbutiken and I managed to find Laxviken. I had no clue where to go but as the King Eider is a very rare bird to see in Sweden there were bird watchers everywhere so just to follow them as the King Eider is the only atraction around here.
There was a big group pointing scopes and cameras in to a garden and I had a look, one Black Redstart. I asked the group and they were on their way back to the parking. They had seen the King Eider but it was very far away.
They told me to go down to the beach and to look for the other bird watchers and to look in the direction where they pointed their scopes.

I see the bird watchers looking for the King Eider
I go to see the bird watchers and I asked if they had seen the King Eider. No one had seen the bird and we looked out over the see. Suddenly someone thought they had seen the King Eider. There were maybe 3 or 4 groups of eiders far out at the sea.
And the birds were sometimes below waves, so the birds was visible and then it disappeared behind a wave. So next to impossible to get the eye on one small King Eider far out at sea.
I had to point my camera towards the group where they had seen the King Eider.
I only saw white dots in my camera and I decided to take several pictures and to check them back at the hotel when I have the pictures on my computer.

I was very happy to discover three pictures that I could use. Very small, but it was possible to ID the King Eider. I was in bed early and I will drive to Hornborgasjön and Trandansen to look at the Common Cranes and other exciting birds that I hope will
show up.
But first some morning birding before I drive to pick up my nephew and he will join me going to look for the Cranes at Hornborga and we have booked hotels for 2 nights.
