Sunday 16th of August 1987 and I joined M/S Nova in Kopparverks hamnen, Helsingborg. I think they discharged in Kopparverks hamnen when I came onboard. And I think we left for Denmark when we were finished in Helsingborg.
I don't remember all the places we went to, but we did a few voyages from East Germany to Bålsta with gypsum so I had oppertunities to send home tax free vodka from East Germany when we were in Bålsta. It was the same story when I was on M/S Tina, we sent plenty vodka from the post office in Bålsta.
So I had more vodka than I cared for when I came back home.
When I came onboard I meet a motorman that I had been in school with in Helsingborg back in 1982 to 1984. Of course we went ashore for a few drinks when ever we got the chance.
We used to load gypsum from train wagons in East Germany. Back in the days there wereguards watching the ship so no one got onboard and thus escaped from East Germany.
East Germany was the worst country, Poland was easy going, the guards just asked for Coke and Playboy.
Russia wasn't to bad, there was a guard. But East Germany was the hardcore comunist country. Cameras was totaly forbidden, but I managed to take a few photos from my cabin. I got one of the guard and one from a navy base we passed.
But I had to hide taking my pictures. we remember the drama in Wismar back in 1986 when they came onboard M/S Tina and took my film, motherf@ckers!
And yes, now a days when people say they are from Germany it is easy to forget that east Germany is a part of Germany. And most of the people from former east Germany give me the whole song and dance about how good it was back in the days.
They are obviously under the impression that I have never been to East Germany. Well, I have spent plenty time in East Germany. Hell, how good can a country be when they are shooting the people trying to get out of there?
Yes, May 2011 and we had a Pilot on River Elbe from former East Germany. He kept himself going defending the shitty country.
- I had a good life there!
And there was a remarkable change when he found out that I had been in East Germany.
- Yeah, it is much better now!
- Of course it is, I said.
I don't remember much from M/S Nova. I remember watching a HKF vide in Bålsta after coming onboard from the Post office. It was a documentary about someone called CRUSHER CARLSSON and I will never forget the intro. Well, the song was actually quite catchy. VERY VERY WELCOME HOME CRUSHER CARLSSON.
Actually, I can still catch myself humming on the darn intro even if it was like 25 years ago I watched the darn program.
I tried to find any info about the program on the internet but I came up with ZIP. I remember it as I was watching program with Täppas Fågelberg. HKF sent us video cassettes with Swedish TV but I checked out internet for Täppas Fågelberg's apperance on TV and I could not find anything until 1991 so it must have been on another ship.
I signed off M/S Nova on the 21st of September 1987 in Köping. I took the train from Köping to Båstad and I took the last pictures on the way to the railway station. Luckily enough our AB was painting the ship name so there are some action on the pictures.
September in Båstad, for sure not very exciting and I drove to Go:teborg ( A wee bit more exciting) on the 25th to visit a few friends. And of course, we ended up at Columbus on 2a Långgatan.
Saturday 26th of September 1987 and I woke up in Go:teborg. Well, this is 25 years ago so I don't remember very much of what we did. But I remember that we meet at Columbus on Saturday for breakfast. Well, it was mostly beers.
Well, our friend was bragging about all the 5 star restaurants in Go:teborg. Yes, good luck trying to impress 2 guys from Skåne. We booked a limousine and they picked us up at Columbus and I don't remember the name of the restaurant, but I remember that they didn't let us in. But it was Peps Persson on the entertainment centre all the way from Columbus to the restaurant. And the bar in the car was empty when we arrived to the restaurant.
I also remember this weekend, we were at a friend's apartment drinking beer. He felt asleep on the toilet when we left and J wasn't allowed to follow us to the party. I never understood, but as the guy taking us there said:
- This is a party for the upper class so we must behave.
When we arrived it was for sure high class. Farmer John with a tie around their neck. Is this for real?
Yes, this was a real NOBEL PRIZE party. I told my friends that we should take a taxi back to Go:teborg. We ended up at a club at Pustervik. I have several pictures from this weekend, but only 4 is appropriate for internet.
Hmm, maybe when I'm retired.
Tuesday 29th of September 1987 and I don't know what we did. But I have two pictures of an AB I was working with onboard M/S Nordic Link back in the summer of 1986. He was visiting me in Båstad and for sure, a Tuesday in September there is no party going on in Båstad.
I also visited my brother onboard M/T Aurum in Landskrona and it was decided that I should join M/T Aurum in November. So instead of staying home wasting money I got a job onboard M/S Bleking and I would join M/T Aurum when I had signed off M/S Bleking.
I signed on M/S Bleking 1st of October 1987 so hang on!

I put a “Next” button here and I hope that there isn't any problem to understand how to use that one.
