Back in FUNKY TOWN - August 2011
Friday 5th of August 2011 and I stopped at my local 7 Eleven for 2 Diet MAX on my way home from the bus. 2 bottles just enough to keep me going until it's time to leave for Bangkok Fight Club.
I spent the time updating the latest drivel on my web page. And I had time to make a tomato & onion omelette before I took off to my boxing session.
It was pouring down but I was lucky, but it stop raining when I walked to Bangkok Fight Club. And as soon as I arrived there was a thunderstorm passing with heavy showers.
Friday night at Bangkok Fight Club and it is a wee bit more relaxed atmosphere, we were 6 people and we spent the time kicking and we finished the session with the mitts. Well, of course we finished the session with cool down and sit ups.
It stopped to rain when I walked back home. I passed my local 7 Eleven and I praised myself for coming up with the idea with the “BOXING VALET”. I stopped to buy a case of San Miguel Light and a few bottles of Diet MAX. I made it all the way home to my door before my case of San Miguel Light felt apart.
Saturday 6th of August 2011 and my alarm clock didn't went off at 9 o'clock so I didn't woke up until 10 thirty. Darn! I had planned to be at Chakrit Muay Thai School between 11 and 12.
So I had to have a quick tuna and tea before taking off to Chakrit Muay Thai School. I had planned to skip the boxing session but I got an SMS from the American girl.
“I'm on my way to the boxing now”
OK, so cancelling was not an option
I left for the boxing session on foot and the American girl had just arrived when I stepped inside. I was not happy to discover 3 other guys training at Chakrit Muay Thai School. I was about to go back home, but 2 guys were ready and left after a few minutes.
I had to be back home at 2 o'clock when they were going to deliver my salmon but our Teacher talked me in to get the gloves and we started with the mitts. I did a few rounds before I helped the American girl with her helmet.
She started the sparring and I took pictures for her Facebook that I will e-mail to her later on. But not today, I will be busy when I'm back home from the boxing session.
And for sure, not tomorrow, I suspect that I will suffer from a hangover.
I was back home just before 2 o'clock and I was enjoying a Diet MAX in the kitchen when my salmon arrived 10 minutes later. Good, now I don't have to wait for the salmon and I'm free to have my shower.
What if I would not have been able to hear the door bell while in the shower? They had returned with the salmon to SCAN DELI and I would have been banned from their internet shop.
But before I had my shower I needed to go down to my local 7 Eleven to buy some stuff. When I came down on the parking lot I saw my friend's car and she had just arrived.
- What the
I had told her to come around 4 or 5 o'clock and now it was 2 thirty. And I had stuff to do. I told her to wait for me in my apartment. I'm just leaving for the 7 Eleven
- I will be back in a few minutes.
When I came back I turned on a movie for her and I could do some work while she was watching a movie.
When I was ready with my work we turned off the video and she asked if there were nicotine in my chewing gums.
She had taken one of my nico chewing gum while I was at 7 Eleven and she was dizzy and felt asleep.
- Good, now you learnt something and you will think twice before taking something next time.
We were hungry and we were waiting for the others to arrive. They were driving 2 different cars and the girl that was going to roll the salmon was in a car with her college. She knew where I was living but the driver didn't. She felt asleep and they were lost, well, I don't know where they ended up.
When they arrived she got right on to the salmon
detail and when they were ready with the salmon they decided that they wanted to swim and went to the swimming pool.
When they returned from the swimming pool we could finally eat and by then I was hungry. I had not eaten since before I left for Chakrit Muay Thai School.
I ordered 4 kilo of Gravlax from SCAN DELI but they only had 2 and a half kilo. So I got 1 and a half kilo of smoked salmon instead of the Gravlax.
We started with beer but it didn't take long before the Tequila and STROH Rum bottles came on the table. And as soon as the STROH bottle came on the table the volume level increased and it didn't take long before the music was blasting high on the Richter scale.
And of course, when the music is blasting high the concrete hat is never far away. I woke up over a bar in Thonglor and I discover a cup of ice tea in front of me. The staff knew me and, well, good service to prepare a glass of ice tea for me. But I never liked ice tea so I ordered a beer instead.
Sunday 7th of August 2011 and, well, the whole day was spent in bed.
Well, I went down to my local 7 Eleven to buy some ice cream and I made myself a hangover milkshake before returning to my bed and the hangover DVD.
Monday 8th of August 2011 and I woke up at 11. What the have happened to my 9 o'clock alarm? I checked out my phone and I discovered that I had turned off my daily 9 o'clock alarm call. DARN! 2 hours late out of bed is 2 hours lost time. I went to the kitchen to make my breakfast, first day with my new improved diet menu.
I'm down to half the amount of pumpernickel and I changed from 4 to 3 eggs in my afternoon omelette. Less to eat and I'm saving a few minutes on my breakfast, but anyway, it was almost 2 o'clock when I arrived to Chakrit Muay Thai School
1 Pot of tea
125 gram of pumpernickel
1 can of tuna or salmon
Coming home from Chakrit Muay Thai School before going to Bangkok Fight Club
1 Pot of tea
1 can of peeled tomato
Omelette made of 3 eggs
I did a few rounds with the mitts before returning home for my afternoon omelette. I had a terrible pain in my right shoulder and it was not possible to continue. A few hours of rest and I will hopefully be ready for Bangkok Fight Club tonight.
It was 9 thirty when I came back home from Bangkok Fight Club. I had stopped at my local 7 Eleven for a bottle of Diet MAX so it was real nice stepping inside my apartment knowing that I had finished my Thai books before the boxing. I could get right on to enjoying my Diet MAX
Tuesday 9th of August 2011 and even though my alarm went off at 9 I didn't get out of bed until 10. But 10 o'clock is better than 11 and I had time to enjoy my breakfast (tea and pumpernickel) before I left for Chakrit Muay Thai School.
I walked down to Chakrit Muay Thai School and I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. I was alone and the Teachers were eating their lunch.
I putt on the helmet and gloves and we were soon starting with the sparring. The American girl showed me her legs at Bangkok Fight Club yesterday. They were all blue after her sparring at Chakrit Muay Thai School last Saturday.
Well, now she can check out our Teacher's leg when she is coming to Chakrit Muay Thai School tomorrow. Our Teacher's shin are all black after our sparring. Yes, I was kicking arse today and it was quite fun with the sparring today.
My Teacher was on the floor several times. Every time he tried to go in to clinch he grabbed him around his waist and I threw him to the floor.
We were throwing punches and kicks at each other for 2 rounds. Then we started with the mitts.
It is fun with the sparring, but i need to lose weight. I'm 50 to 60 kilos heavier today than when I was at Helsingborg's boxing club. And I was scared when I realized that it was 28 years ago. DARN! Time really turns quick.
But the worst shock was 2 or 3 weeks ago. I found an old letter and I read it while thinking “Yeah, I remember this”. 1993, yes, 8 years ago. 8 years and time have been pretty quick.
- What the
1993, that is not 8 years ago, IT IS 18 YEARS AGO! DARN! I was shocked and the day was destroyed. I felt very old.
Well, anyway, a few rounds with the mitts and I walked back home to my shower and Thai books. It is so nice coming home from Bangkok Fight Club in the evening knowing that I'm ready with my Thai books. Just to relax and I would have relaxed with a Diet MAX but I just finished my last bottle and I decided not to buy any more Diet MAX.
Lo and f@cking behold! When I left for Bangkok Fight Club it started to pour down. I had to stop and take cover at the ATM at Srinakarinwirot University on the way to Bangkok Fight Club.
Even though I had to take cover at Srinakarinwirot University I managed to be at Bangkok Fight Club 5 minutes before 7. And they had started the warm up when I arrived!
- What the
Are we starting at 7 or what? Sometimes I have to wait until almost 7 thirty before we start and today they started before 7. Well, they stopped the warm up when I arrived and we continued when I had my boxing shoes on. My shoes were soaking wet, and I was soaking wet and in a bad mood after walking here in the rain.
A few minutes of warm up and we continued with the body building equipments.
When we finished with the body building it was time for technique and we were standing on the floor, pair by pair facing each others. Suddenly we were interrupted by our Teacher and his snack. He had a tube of something that looked like dry rice.
And he didn't give up until everyone had tried the snack. He saw him approaching me.
- No thanks, I'm on diet.
This was not a valid argument. And he went on and on about how good this was.
- OK, let me try the darn thing!
I took a few of whatever it was. I think someone mentioned yellow beans.
- It tastes like corn flakes! It is tiny corn flakes.
- NO NO NO!! This is very good!!
Well, anyway, we started with the technique and I had a Thai guy as a partner and our Teacher demonstrated how we were going to do this. My partner and I took turns attacking and defending our self. Jab and a punch to be blocked just to receive a elbow in the face.
And I think the elbow technique is called the mango. At least our Teacher is calling the elbow for the mango, or the hard mango.
We continued with the drills and I think we did 4 or 5 different exercises. Can't say that I like the mango drill. You should swing around putting the elbow in the face of the other guy.
Push away his fist and swing around placing the elbow where it hurt the most. It was a little like the somersaults, I did it a few times and I found myself dizzy from all the turning around.
Our friend, the American girl was a NO SHOW today. She hurt her wrist yesterday and she would stay away from the boxing sessions for the rest of the week.
And I was kickin' arse on Soi 22 all for nothing. When I came back home from Chakrit Muay Thai School, pretty satisfied about myself giving our Teacher a black shin for the American girl could have a look at. And even better, kick his shin when she was going for sparring tomorrow.
But when I came home there was an e-mail from her:
“So I will not be at the gym for the rest of the week I woke up this morning and my wrist was extremely swollen and I couldn´t move it. Luckily, like I suspected it wasn't broken but its severely sprained and I have to stay off of it for a week :( so have fun without me this week and I shall see you Monday”
What the is this? I sent her a reply:
“What the .......??!! Now I have been kicking arse at Soi 22 so you could go check out the Teacher's leg. Your small blue spots are nothing compared to his black shins.
Of course, I was disappointed and when I got her next e-mail I came up with a plan.
“hahaha, good he deserve some bruises! Hopefully they will still be there next week lol
Hopefully they will be there next week. Well, I doubt it and I will try to have a picture of his darn shin tomorrow. And what does “lol” mean?
We finished our technique exercises and we took on our gloves. Time for speed punches. The girls from France needed to wrap their hands in whatever they call the stuff. I bought two rolls of this stuff for my hands, I have used them one time and now they are only taking up space in my apartment. Well, anyway, our Teacher was quick to assist them.
And of course, I took the opportunity to pester him with my camera. And today we did a new version of the speed punch. There were punch bags for all of us, except for one. But there is a punch bag on the floor so one of us had to sit astride on the punching bag and punch the bag like there was no tomorrow.
So we had to move between the bags in order for us all to get to the punch bag on the floor. And it was different combinations at the different punch bags and we changed every minute.
Cool down and sit ups and I expected us to go home. I had already been taken off my shoes before we started with the cool down and sit ups.
And it was nice to get out of my shoes, they were soaking wet after the rain and I wasn't looking forward to taking on my other shoes for the walk back home. But we were not going home.
Now it was time for the mitts. Yes, bonus time, we get extra exercises for the same price and that is not bad. We did the mitts for 15 or 20 minutes and it was almost 9 when we were finished with today's session at Bangkok Fight Club.
It was 9 o'clock when we left Bangkok Fight Club and our two girls from France got a ride with our Teacher to Asoke BTS station. And as usually our Teacher asked me if I wanted to join them. The girls were joining him.
- Come on! Here is plenty space for you!
Well, I prefer to walk, I don't feel like plunging down Asoke Road on a motorcycle, and for sure, not when there already were 3 persons on the bike.
- No thanks', I'm walking and I will burn a few extra calories.
I realized that my “BOXING VALET” idea wasn't my greatest idea when I came to Sukhumvit Soi 23 and my local 7 Eleven. Well, it would have been a good idea if I had bothered to fill up my “BOXING VALET”. I had 40 Baht in my “BOXING VALET” and as I wanted some Diet MAX I had to go home and refill my “BOXING VALET”.
I returned to my local 7 Eleven and I bought 3 bottles of Diet MAX instead of my usual 2 bottles. And I was giving up the Diet MAX! Well, there is another day tomorrow.
Wednesday 10th of August 2011 and I woke up at 12 o'clock and the first thing I discovered was that my arms were soar and aching after the session at Chakrit Muay Thai School yesterday. I decided not to go to Chakrit Muay Thai School today, but I will hopefully feel better tomorrow so I can go.
I finished my Thai books and I was hungry. I had spent most of the time thinking about Marriot when I studied my Thai books. Skip Bangkok Fight Club and go to Marriot? My arm tells me to skip Bangkok Fight Club tonight. But I can imagine the agony if I skip the boxing session and end up at Marriot instead.
But some sushi would be nice. I need energy and I skipped my darn omelette and I walked to the Japanese restaurant on Prasanmit Plaza.
I made a stop at my local 7 Eleven on the way to Prasanmit Plaza. I bought as pack of fags and I continued to Tokhai for some sushi. The Waitresses screamed when I came stepped inside.
- Aladdin! You are back!
They knew about my diet because I use to run in to the Waitresses on my Soi going back and forth to the boxing club on Soi 22.
I ordered a bottle of water and a salmon maki and a avocado maki. Mmm, avocado, has been a while now and I was really looking forward to some avocado.
My salmon and avocado maki were soon gone and I ordered nigiri salmon and nigiri avocado sushi. I went outside for a coffin nail while waiting for my sushi. The nigiri avocado was something of the best I ever had. I was instantly reminded about the Aladdin Special spring roll in Liverpool.
Aladdin's spring roll SPECIAL made of smoked salmon and avocado at the Italian restaurant in Liverpool
I was still hungry and I asked if they could make a salmon & avocado combo nigiri. No problem and I got my special nigiri and it was gorgeous. Now I know what I will order at Tokhai from now on.
I finished my salmon & avocado combo nigiri and I got my bill. I was still hungry and I needed carbohydrates and I went to the coffee shop next door.
I asked for a cup of tea and they had so much good stuff on display I had a hard time making up my mind. Well, I asked for a cinnamon roll and a brownie and a tube of something that looked like small meringues in different colours.
Cinnamon roll, this was one of the best cinnamon rolls I had ever been eating. Much better than the sorry and dry excuse for cinnamon rolls we get in Sweden.
The brownie was very good, actually, everything was very good. Maybe because I was so hungry. I finished my tea, I ordered one more cinnamon roll, and I walked back home. I stopped at my local 7 Eleven for 2 bottles of Diet MAX. I felt much better walking back home even though I was suffering from a severe remorse for skipping my tomato & onion omelette.
I left Bangkok Fight Club early and I went back home, not in a good mood. And what the f@ck is wrong with my scale? I'm gaining weight every day and I'm eating less. Must be the canned tomatoes, what's in the darn cans?
Thursday 11th of August 2011 and what the ? I woke up 5 minutes before 12 and I had missed my session at Chakrit Muay Thai School. Darn! I turned off my alarm at 9 o'clock and I really need to shape up.
Well, I will have to pop a sleeping pill when I'm back home from Bangkok Fight Club tonight. I don't need another night of tossin' and turnin' in bed until 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning and thus miss my wakeup call at 9.
My diet is in a reverse mode, at least it seems like that. What has changed in my menu? I'm eating less and I'm gaining weight! Strange! Hmm, maybe the darn canned tomatoes
Peeled tomatoes in tomato juice. Maybe the tomato juice is pure sugar, but I have always poured the juice before taking the tomatoes. But what does that help if the tomatoes are soaked in sugar? I'm not sure if there is any sugar in the juice, but I decided to go back to fresh tomatoes.
So I was off to Robinson to buy fresh tomatoes for my afternoon omelette.
I finished my Thai books when I came back from Robinson and I was hungry when I was ready. And I must say that the omelette tasted better with fresh tomatoes. And there will hopefully be changes on the scale tonight.
And I'm seriously doubt that it was due to the fresh tomatoes that my scale showed 1,7 kilo less than yesterday. There must be something wrong with my scale, 1,5 kilo up one day and 2 kilo down the next day.
Friday 12th of August 2011 and today I managed to wake up with my alarm clock at 9. I watched the news before going for my shower and it was 10 minutes before 10 when I was in my kitchen to make my tea and tuna. Nice to be back on the early morning routines and I had plenty time to enjoy my GOOD MORNING tuna and tea before I left for Chakrit Muay Thai School.
I could not believe my luck, I was alone at Chakrit Muay Thai School when I arrived. Good, we could get right on with the sparring. And the music, I'm fed up with all this TOP-10 Euro Disco and pointless mainstream Hip Hop bullsh*t so I turned on my iPod on their sound system. And we were soon having Pong Lang blasting from the loudspeakers.
My Teachers were beaming of joy.
- You like Pong Lang!!!
They started to dance on the floor.
- ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
We have some sparring to do and no time to waste. We started with the sparring and then we moved on to the mitts. First round with jabs and uppercuts with left arm. Second round was the same but with my right arm. Then we did the left arm, jab and uppercut followed by a jab and hook.
I could not use my right arm after the right arm session so I did the following rounds with left arm only. I decided to go to the hospital tomorrow to check out my arm. I will do my morning, well, afternoon session at Chakrit Muay Thai School and then I will take off to Bangrungrad Hospital on Soi 3 to check out my right arm. I have had a pain for the last 4 or 5 months and now I had had enough.
They called me from Copenhagen in the afternoon. I was planned to go visit Copenhagen for a day but they suggested that I went to their office in Singapore instead. Monday 22nd and I will take the opportunity to spend a weekend in Singapore. Yes, I like Singapore and I'm looking forward to a weekend of fun.
- But what about your intermediate goal #1 before drinking beer?
Well, I'm going crazy, I can't remember a more boring holiday than this. I'm on the verge of going crazy. Every f@cking day it the same.
1) Trying to get out of bed at 9
2) Eating my pumpernickel and tuna with a pot of tea. Just thinking about tuna makes me sick
(Don't tell anyone, but I have been on my way to Marriot several times the last few weeks)
3) Sparring and mitts session at Chakrit Muay Thai School
4) Walking back home to study my Thai books
5) Eating my boring tomato & onion omelette with a pot of tea
(Don't tell anyone, but I have been on my way to Marriot several times the last few weeks)
6) Boxing session at Bangkok Fight Club
Every day the same boring schedule and I'm really looking forward to a weekend in Singapore.
The only nice thing happened to me this time in Bangkok is when I meet people I have not seen for a while. “ALADDIN! You are disappearing!”
Well, they called me from Teekay, I had just finished my phone conversation with Copenhagen when the phone rang. I will join one of their shuttle tankers next week and I'm very happy to leave Bangkok. Singapore, I will have to cancel my Singapore trip on Monday. Well, postpone the trip, I will have to do it in September.
Shuttle tanker and I will get my 30 days of DP experience and I can take my advanced DP course in Manila when I'm back home. Well, thinking of it, I can take the course in Singapore.
When it was time to leave for Bangkok Fight Club it started to rain, never mind, I was in a good mood. Leaving Bangkok for a month, YIIPPEEE! If I can manage to keep my diet on track while in Norway I can come back to Bangkok a wee bit smaller and I don't have to take my diet so serious. Maybe I can allow myself a beer or two next time in Bangkok? Maybe it will be a little bit more fun.
I was soaking wet when I arrived to Bangkok Fight Club, my shoes were wet as well so I had to do our boxing session in my stockings. I was still in a good mood, I'm really looking forward to leaving Bangkok and my dull life behind. But as the lighting designer said when Bangkok Fight Club was at Thonglor. We walked together and she told me that we were exercising to get our life back.
Yeah, she was right. I feel better and I will have to go through this pain for a few more month. And is there a better way than losing weight on a ship?
There were only 2 of us at Bangkok Fight Club and I suggested sparring. Our Teacher and the other guy got excited.
We started with the Thai navy exercise and then our Teacher went to get some gloves and he found me a helmet. Oh, I hate the helmets, too small and it is quite painful to wear the darn thing. Impossible to sweep the sweat of my forehead and I get the sweat in my eyes. And the worst of all, wearing it and I get a tunnel vision.
But it is still better than to have to take off my ear rings every time. We were taking turn and I started with my Muay Thai companion while our Teacher were giving pointers.
- FER F@CK'S SAKE!! WORK HARDER!!
- FER F@CK'S SAKE!! MOVE YOUR ASS!!
When we were ready it was time for my Muay Thai companion and Teacher and I took pictures. They tend to be a little bit better when I take the pictures myself.
My Muay Thai companion and Teacher were throwing punches at each other while I was taking pictures.
When they were ready with their rounds I had to donned the gloves and it was time for yet some sparring with the Teacher. And the last round was between me and my Muay Thai companion.
Yes, I think this was the most fun day at Bangkok Fight Club so far. Well, it might have been a wee bit more fun with the beautiful girls at the boxing sessions.
When we finished the sparring we did a few rounds with the mitts before it was time for the cool down and time to go home. Our Teacher asked if I wanted him to take me home.
- No thanks' I walk.
Every calorie counts in my chase for a
V-shaped torso. It had stopped raining when we left Bangkok Fight Club quarter past 8. And we had had my iPod playing during the boxing session, Pong Lang and Mo Lam so the music had been good and it had been a good boxing session.
Back home I checked out my pictures and I sent the good ones to my Teacher's Facebook. It was 21:30 when I came out from the shower. I decided to go buy a camera at Emporium while in the shower so I grabbed my plastic cards and I took a taxi to Emporium and the Eastbourne camera shop on the 3rd or 4th floor.
I arrived to the camera shop quarter to 10 and they are closing at 10. But I had my camera and I left Eastbourne at Emporium quarter past 10. I left all CDs' and boxes and shit coming with the camera behind.
Now I'm ready to get some action pictures at Bangkok Fight Club and Chakrit Muay Thai School. I will just have to learn what all the buttons do on the camera. But I think I knew the “SHUTTER PRIORITY” and the “APERTURE PRIORITY” so I should be ready to take pictures. And there is always the FULL AUTO mode as an emergency escape.
I will bring my camera to Chakrit Muay Thai School tomorrow. Walking back home from Chakrit Muay Thai School today and I saw a beggar with a mobile phone. I always have my CANON compact camera in my pocket, but it would have been to embarrassing to get up to her and take a picture. With my new camera I can take the picture from a distance and no one will ever have to notice.
Seriously, you're sitting on the street begging for a Baht while writing SMS or calling someone on a mobile phone. I really hope I can get a picture tomorrow.
I was back home after 1 hour and 56000 Baht later. I checked the picture I had taken on my way home and I was impressed. And these pictures were all in FULL AUTO mode, imagine the pictures when I have learnt all the buttons.
Even though all my CANON compact cameras has been excellent it is nothing compared to this one. And by freehand, darn! I forgot to buy a tripod. I will see if I have the time tomorrow.
It was worth the 56000 Baht, well, I will get 7% back on the airport when I'm leaving. It will be like I will have to work the first 4 days for free when I'm coming on the ship and then the camera is paid for. So no agony for spending the money and I have been looking for a camera so I would have bought it anyway.
Hopefully this camera will not end up as my previous CANON EOS, it was fun for a few days and then I had the darn camera in a drawer and now I have no clue where the darn thing is. It is not like with my CANON compact that I have i my pocket all the time. This one is nothing I will have hanging around my neck when I'm at the pub. But it will be excellent at Bangkok Fight Club. And I really hope I can get a picture of the beggar talking on her mobile phone. Seriously, she is sitting there with a baby, hard to say how old. Maybe 3 years old, shouldn't she buy milk for her child instead of spending it talking on a mobile phone? Well, I don't know, 2011 and everyone you see are talking on a phone.
AND WHERE THE F@CK IS THE FATHER? SHOULD BE A LAW THAT YOU HAD TO TAKE CARE OFF YOUR OFFSPRING OR GO TO JAIL!!
Saturday 13th of August 2011 and my alarm went off at 9 o'clock. I had to force myself out of bed, it was almost 5 o'clock when I felt a sleep and I was dead tired. A hot shower and I were off to my kitchen to eat my darn tuna and pumpernickel.
I'm in the progress of updating my old web pages and I had a few pictures to do to complete my first photo album. My photo albums are almost 30 years old and I will throw them away when I'm finished with the update.
So I finished my first photo album before leaving for Chakrit Muay Thai School and I threw it in our garbage room when I left. I had my new camera around my neck and I had walked 100 or 200 meters when I remembered why I never used my old CANON EOS. Of course, excellent pictures with a big lens, but I never notice my CANON compact camera when in my pocket.
And even though my compact camera isn't as good as the EOS it takes excellent pictures.
Well, now I have the darn camera and I better use it. And as I said to our 2nd Officer on Ternvik when we talked about cameras.
- What to do with all the pictures? I only take pictures for my web page.
- Put them on your web page
- It will be millions of boring pictures!
Walking towards Chakrit Muay Thai School and there was a guy on a moped passing me. I have seen them before driving around selling stickers. He stopped outside Prasanmit Post Office and I crossed to the other side of the street to get a good picture.
And talk about tunnel vision, I'm complaining about my helmet at my boxing session. But this guy can't see what's happening around him. For sure, in Sweden the Police would have stopped a vehicle like this coming down the road.
When I was a child I collected stickers and I remember when we walked around town asking for stickers in every shops. Would have been handy to have had someone driving arouns selling stickers and we could have spent our allowance on the stickers.
But we collected advertising stickers and I think this guy is selling a different kind of stickers. Who buys a sticker with a marijuana leaf or a girl in bikini?
- Oh, this was a nice sticker!
I think I will put it on my door!
My Teachers were having lunch when I arrived to Chakrit Muay Thai School. One of the Teachers had a friend fighting on TV so we had to wait with our session until the fight was over.
I felt sorry for my Teacher. Boxing is fun, well, the sparring part is fun. Skipping ropes, push ups and the Thai navy exercise is something I can do without. Well, I can't do without it, but it is no fun. I think my Teacher is 37 and thus too old to fight, but I could see that he was missing it. He was sitting in the chair and every time one of the fighters on the TV was leaving a gap in the defence his feet kicked just by reflex. Yes, he wouldn't have minded being in the ring.
We're not getting younger by the days passing by. No sparring today, only the mitts and I only did my left arm today. I tried with the right arm, but it is still painful.
I left the boxing school and I walked back home and I took plenty pictures. Yes, I will lean to use my camera by using it. There was 4 different handbooks coming with the camera, several hundred pages and I don't have time to read the books. So I decided to try to get some HANDS ON practice.
There still are some old houses on Sukhumvit Soi 23 so I took the opportunity to get a few pictures so I will remember how it looked like. I'm sure that most of those houses will be replaced by condominiums soon.
And it is strange how quick we forget how things looked like after just a year or two. I remember a big SEA FOOD restaurant at the Asoke intersection. Now there is a skyscraper, actually there are new sky scrapers at 3 of Asoke intersections corners. Not long ago there was a market, well, I only remember the SEA FOOD restaurant but I don't remember how it looked like. Same on my Soi, it looks much better now (If the could only put all the wires underground like in the civilized world) most of the crappy houses are gone and there are new low rising houses.
Maybe I should go for a photo safari in my neighbourhood one of those days. But I'm not comfortable walking around with my camera. Feels like I'm spying, but it ca be a good thing to have a few pictures to see how the area develops through the years. But then, in 10 years I will have trouble finding the pictures I took today and yet another great idea down the drain.
I walk home from Chakrit Muay Thai School, almost, every day and everyone know me along the Soi and they know that I'm coming from the boxing club in my training clothes and boxing shoes around my neck.
But still, every day:
- Where have you been?
And today when I walked home with my camera:
- Where have you been? Out taking pictures?
Back home and I opened one of the cold Diet MAX that I had bought at 7 Eleven on my way home. A quick fag with my Diet MAX and I was off to the shower.
And looking back on today's drivel and I realise that my fears have come true, a lot of pictures. But no party pictures. I got an e-mail yesterday and it is in Swedish, but I will try to translate it for you:
Your web page and your exciting life is the only thing making me want to get out of bed in the morning.
I'm impressed by your weight loss. But your page has turned a wee bit boring with out the pictures of you sleeping on a bar counter with a stupid cap.
Well, that's how life is, we're getting old.
Hmm, never too old to sleep over a bar counter in a stupid cap, right?
Sunday 14th of August 2011 and was I hit by a train yesterday? And why the hell do I wake up at 9 o'clock? Do I have any money? Many questions on a early Sunday morning. Obviously I had been at 7 Eleven before coming home because I had 4 bottles of hangover milk in the fridge. Good, I finished the hangover milk and I returned to bed and luckily enough I managed to fall asleep again.
The only day of the week when I didn't wanted to wake up at 9, all the other days when i want to get out of bed at 9 it is darn impossible. Well, our hero the HANGOVER MAN started to ponder on what might turn out to be his greatest idea ever, “The Hangover Emergency Kit” Never again will he have to wake up wondering if he has any cash. Our hero the Hangover Man is somewhat averse to leave his apartment, and if he leave it will for sure not be longer than to his local 7 Eleven.
And SCAN DELI's home deliver is excellent and comes in handy when our hero doesn't feel like leaving his bed. But they don't accept cards and even though I think I have credit at the place it feels awkward to ask.
- I don't have any cash, can I pay tomorrow?
- NO PROBLEM! But they are thinking “What a loser, no money! Why don't he get a job?”
At Bourbon Street on Washington Square
So I will make sure to always have 5 or 10 thousand laying at home plus that I will get a 7 Eleven card just in case. I went out of bed and I checked my valet. 40 Baht plus coins, not even enough to get me in a taxi. I checked my pockets 1000 plus plus Baht in wrinkled bills. OK, now were talking, but still not enough to put me in the comfort zone. But enough for a quick run down to my local 7 Eleven for some hangover milk.
I discovered missed calls and SMS on my phone.
“Lunch at Bourbon Street at 13:00”
- It is 12:53
I had a shower and I took a taxi to Bourbon Street on Washington Square. Our hero The Hangover Man realise that he don't feel all that bad. Maybe because of his new life style. Well, who knows?
I ordered salmon and spinach with a soda water and I asked for a bucket of banana milk shake.
- We don't have buckets
- What the
- We will give you our biggest glass.
- Not good enough, bring me 4 of those glasses!
I got my milk shakes coming to the table in a steady stream and I enjoyed every one of them, excellent milk shakes. I could have had a few more, but I have to think about my V-shaped torso.
There was a gay that I had meet 8 or 9 years ago, he remembered me but I didn't remember him.
- Aladdin! Long time.
- Who are you?
He said that I looked younger now than when we met last time. Good to hear. They were decorating house and condo and they asked me if I knew any good people in Bangkok.
- You have a plenty experience from when you did you condo
- More than I wish for!
Took me 4 years to get the darn condo up to Swedish standard, well, we never managed to reach Swedish standard, but at the end I was pretty satisfied with the job. Maybe because it took me 4 years and during those years I was slowly realizing that we would never reach Swedish standard. Hell, there was even times when I would have been satisfied just by being able to put a bed in my darn condo.
And my friends had the same experience, redecorating his house and he had had his share of clots working in the house. I told them that I knew an Electrician that did electricity and water work. And I had a good guy with a construction company. I will send you their details when I'm back home. But stay well clear of foreigners and Pattaya beach boys. When you see “WESTERN MANAGEMENT” in the adds there should be several alarms going off. Managing from a bar somewhere and you don't want a guy managing your condo from a sleazy bar.
Use a Thai company, you will have to work through several companies until you find a good one. I think I had 11 different doing my condo and now I have found the right guys.
The food was excellent and I was full, but my friend asked for the dessert menu. OK, it is Sunday so why not? We ordered chocolate brownies with ice cream. I asked for whipping cream, but there must have been a misunderstanding because I got ice cream. Can't say that I like ice cream, unless in a hangover milk shake. But, well, the brownie tasted good so never mind.
They will soon close down everything on Washington Square, I have been waiting for this for several years. I never go to Washington Square, well, except for Chakrit Muay Thai School. But they will soon move to Soi 39. Bourbon Street, can't even remember when I ate here last time. But now they will tear down everything. They have started to build a Holiday Inn in the corner of Sukhumvit and Soi 22 and I think there will be a shopping centre on Washington Square.
A new hotel and shopping centre is just what we need in Bangkok. MBK Center, Mahboonkrong is the only shopping centre I have been to with people. With people I mean crowded.
Emporium and World Trade Centre are always empty, a few people walking around, but who cares? I'm never there any way.
I took the opportunity to get a few pictures of Washington Square to remember how it looked like when my memory of the place has faded away sometimes in November 2011. I heard that Bourbon Street will open up at Ekkamai when they close at Washington Square.
The whole experience at Bourbon Street set me back by 900 Baht and I was down to almost zero in the valet. We left the place and we walked to Sukhumvit Soi 22 where we took a taxi. My friend will fly to Swede tonight so he has an exciting flight to look forward to. I will leave on Tuesday. I was looking forward to my flight. At least until I called Thai Airways.
- Business class is full.
The whole flight is full so I hope that I can get an aisle seat and that I don't end up next to a incontinent sex tourist that will run to the loo every hour all night long.
Leaving Bourbon and I started to put my latest SUPER idea “The Hangover Emergency Kit” in to motion. I went to the ATM before getting in to a taxi.
- Please stop at 7 Eleven, I told the taxi driver
I went in to my local 7 Eleven and I bought a 7 Eleven card and I loaded it with 1000 Baht. Now I have enough for hangover milk if I would wake up without cash.
I enjoyed my bag of Minute Maids when I came back home and then I went to bed to enjoy a Hangover DVD®. But first I called Thai Airways to check if someone had cancelled their business class seat. Well, I was unlucky and I can't say that I look forward to flying monkey class. But at least it gets me out of Bangkok and that is better than nothing. The flight is brimmed and they told me that there were already people in waiting list for business class. Who the f@ck wants to fly to Oslo? Well, I guess there is a lot of Norwegians going back home after the holiday.
I received an e-mail from the guy I'm going to relieve onboard DE/T Randgrid on Wednesday. I was surprised, it was the 2nd Officer from M/T Ternvik. He is 2nd Officer onboard and I will relieve him.
I thought that I would be the oldest 2nd Officer in the world, but he is older than me. I will have to work as 2nd Officer for 7 months before I get my DP certificate. But my friend wrote that they have a DP CAP and if I use this training program I can obtain my DP cert in 5 months only.
He wrote that they had a punch bag onboard, but he never mentioned if he was using the punch bag or not. They have Diet MAX onboard, but I'm giving up the Diet MAX so this was no information I wanted. They don't have any pumpernickel onboard, but I will not eat anything in order to reach my
intermediate goal #1 a wee bit quicker and I can hopefully have a little more fun next time I'm home for holiday. Maybe I can afford to have a beer or two without having any agony for my diet.
Monday 15th of August 2011 and I have plenty to do so I had to pull myself out of bed at 9 o'clock. Pumpernickel and tuna with my tea before taking off to get black trousers and a black tie. Dress code at my new job, but with the salary they offer I can wear almost anything. But there isn't enough money in this world to make me wear a Singha or “TUK's GO GO bar” tank top and flip flops.
I took a taxi to Sukhumvit Soi 15 and I ordered 2 pair of black trousers and then I was off to Bangkok Bank's head office on Silom Road. Half way there I remembered that I needed a black tie as well and I could call my Tailor and ask him to bring one when he delivers the trousers tonight. But I can as well try to find one at Silom.
I finished my business at the bank and I had planned to go guy snus at The Wall. But I had forgotten whereit was so I took 2 taxis and still no sign of the restaurant.
I walked up Surawong until I passed Patpong, then I knew I had missed it. 20 years ago there was a hotel called Peninsula hotel with a disco, back then it was easy to find The Wall. But the hotel is gone since many years.
I passed a photo shop and I went inside for some ID pictures. Can come in handy in the future.
- Can you please come back in 20 minutes?
I asked for internet and we found the address to The Wall, just around the corner.
- SNUS!! HERE I COME!!
I took the 5 minutes' walk to The Wall and I discovered that they had changed name to Red PInn and I was a wee bit disappointed.
- Do they have snus?
When I approached I discovered a black board outside the restaurant and they had snus!
They had changed from Swedish to Latvian owners but they were still having snus. I asked for 4 rolls a 10 cans.
- Bags or loose?
- Bags are for girls!
- We only have 4 cans of loose snus
I had expected 40 so I was a wee bit disappointed. I bought 4 cans of snus and I ordered a breakfast with a pot of English breakfast tea.
The new Latvia owner was friendly and he had redecorated the place, looked quite nice.
I took my snus when I finished my food and I left for the photo shop and my passport pictures. And I could not believe the old lady when I came back to the photo shop
- Can you wait 20 minutes?
- E du dåm i huet?
- Are you f@cking stupid?
I left the place and I passed a place where I could buy a black tie on my way up Silom Road.
I was wearing my new camera around my neck and there is really a difference in how people treat you with 3 kilo of Canon hanging around your neck. Normally you have some people harassing you when walking down Sukhumvit.
- TUK TUK?
- A SUIT?
But today there were millions of people rushing towards me. And stepping in to a taxi was a different experience from when I have my CANON in my pocket.
It started to rain and I stopped a taxi and I went to my photo shop on Sukhumvit Soi 23. I stepped inside and I asked for 18 passport pictures. So now I'm ready for any new certificates that night be required onboard on Wednesday.
We remember my taxi trip in Mongstad back in 2010, almost 1000 US dollars for a few passport pictures. Company paying, but what a waste of money!
Well, anyway, back to the photo shop on Soi 23.
- Do you want the pictures tomorrow?
- In 3 hours?
- Try 3 minutes'
No problem, I had my pictures in 3 minutes and I walked back home and I had a quick stop at my local 7 Eleven for 2 bottles of Diet MAX that I will enjoy after sending a fax to Bangkok Bank. As a told the girl at Bangkok Bank when she asked me if I had a fax machine.
- Fax?? It is 2011!! What about an e-mail with a scanned picture attached.
I decided to skip my Thai books today and I will skip my reading tomorrow as well. But I will bring my Thai books to the ship. I had time for my tomato and onion omelette before it was time to leave for Bangkok Fight Club.
There were 2 children training today, a family from Austria and they were going back home tomorrow after 4 weeks of holiday and their children wanted to try Thai boxing.
We started with the exciting Thai navy drill and then it was time for shadow boxing and our Teacher was busy with the children. Then it was time for sparring but as I didn't had any helmet to protect my ears I kept myself busy taking pictures for our Teacher's Facebook.
Our Teacher is training a young girl, I don't know how old she is. But can be anything between 7 and 12 and she is kicking arse. Our Teacher told me that she was going professional or if she was professional. It was nice to see her with the mitts. Kicking like a horse and punching like He man.
It was over 9 o'clock before we left Bangkok Fight Club and I walked back home and I stopped for a Diet MAX at my local 7 Eleven. I enjoyed my Diet MAX while waiting for my tailor to deliver my trousers. And I checked out my compact camera, I had obviously been taking pictures last Saturday.
I have spent most of my time trying to learn how to use my new camera so I had forgotten about my CANON compact.
And I had been at a place with very good music and the crowd took turns break dancing on the floor. And luckily enough for me I didn't tried. You know how it is after a few beers. That is no problem, piece of cake!
I still remember (with horror) my pathetic try to break dance in Lund back in 1986. Or was a sleeping, I don't know, but it sounds better to have tried break dancing than to have slept on the streets of Lund. Well, these Thais were good at it and I would most likely have killedmyself trying any of their moves.
My tailor arrived 10 minutes before 11 and I tried on my new outfit and I took a few pictures that I sent to my friend for approval.
He told me that I need black socks and black (well polished) shoes. I won't bother with the black socks and the black shoes, I only have a pair of Dr Marten that I bought when I was going to trek Himalaya in Nepal. I can't remember using the after my adventure in Nepal. Seriously, how stupid can you get? Buying a pair of new Dr Marten and then taking off for trekking the Himalaya. Of course, I had chafed feet when reaching the top of the first hill and from there on I spent every day trekking swearing over my Dr Marten shoes.
Can't say that I'm comfortable in long pants, I'm used to shorts. But my friend wrote that I have
to wear this attire from “PILOT ON” until “PILOT OFF”
nu påstår jag inte att jag kommer att bli snyggast ombord. Men min gissning e att man hamnar på en TOP 3 plats.
But as my friend wrote, you get used to wear the Donald Duck dress, and when you receive your salary you will forget all about the dress code. He also wrote that they had snus onboard, only bagged snus. But loose snus is something we can order, I hope! Yes, I have started to use snus again and I had used snus the last two days so now I have a swollen upper lip. Looks like I have been in a fight.
I have not been chewing any nicotine chewing gum since, well, it was a few days since the last one. Well, I'm ready to leave for Norway and I will see if I can have a last session at Bangkok Fight Club before going to the airport tomorrow.
Tuesday 16th of August 2011 and I was dead when my alarm went off at 9. I didn't felt asleep until 5 o'clock. But it is good to be tired when I'm on the airplane tonight and I will hopefully be able to sleep all the way to Oslo.
And if I can squeeze in 2 boxing sessions today it will help me to fall asleep on the plane.
I left for Chakrit Muay Thai School at 12 o'clock for some last day exercises. I was alone when I arrived, but there were one guy coming when I was ready to start with the sparring. It is OK to be 2 or 3 but not more.
We did 2 rounds of sparring before we started with the mitts. My right shoulder felt good today so we did both left and right arm today.
I walked back home and I stopped at my local 7 Eleven. And I realized that I don't need to carry my “BOXING VALET” any more, it is enough to bring my 7 Eleven card. A small card don't take so much space in my pocket. I uploaded my last boxing pictures for the month of August 2011.
- Hmm, there might be a few from Bangkok Fight Club tonight.
Well, anyway, taking pictures at during the boxing sessions is a very good practice in how to use the camera. And with a lot of practice I will never have to open the handbook!
I made my last tomato and onion omelette before taking off to Bangkok Fight Club. I had packed my bags and I was ready to leave for the airport and Thai Airways flight TG 954 to Oslo to join DE/T Randgrid. More excitements just ONE CLICK ahead!
