Tuesday 1st of February 2011 and I woke up at 8 o'clock. My alarm went off, my alarm is still in school week mood.
I spent a few hours writing on my web page before I went to the restaurant for my breakfast. Tea, toast and a cheese & ham omelette.
I called my friend in his room.
- Do you want to go back home today?
- I don't know.
We decided to stay for yet another day. My friend needed to buy shoes and we agreed on him to knock on my door at 12 o'clock. That gave me some time for me to write a few words on my web page.
We walked to Central Festival shopping centre and he bought a pair of shoes. Converse, but not pink, it would have looked too stupid if we both walked around in pink converse shoes.
We went to the German restaurant on Second Road and I had salad for lunch and my friend had sausage and potato salad.
- What to do now?
- Lets take a walk along Beach Road.
We walked down Soi 7 to Beach Road where we turned left and walked up the Beach Road towards the Walking Street. It was a beautiful day with a cooling breeze from the sea.
We crossed Beach Road when we reached Mike's Shopping mall. My friend was looking for art and there is a Soi named the Art Alley or something like that going up to Second Road.
We were looking in the different art shops and we didn't found anything we liked until the last shop. My friend needed a frame and we should be back at 5 to pick up the painting.
Killing time, we returned to our hotel and I got yet another hour with my web page before we went down to the swimming pool. I'm really behind with my web page and I need all the time I can get.
Yes, after a few days of action with plenty pictures and no time to write there is plenty picture to edit and a lot to write.
We left our hotel at 5 o'clock to go pick up my friend's painting. The painting was framed and ready when we arrived and my friend paid the rest of the money and we returned to the hotel.
Yes, we, well, my friend carried the motherf@cker all the way back to the hotel. I could not help but wondering how we would get it in to the taxi when going back home to Bangkok tomorrow.
- We have to take a big taxi.
We left the painting in my friend's room and we walked down to the Beach Road. We were going to eat dinner at The News in Jomtien with a few friends at 7. So we walked down the Beach Road and when we came to South Pattaya we walked towards Jomtien until we found a Song Taew. Several Song Taew stopped but they were full and we had to walk quite a distance before we found a Song Taew with space for us.
We decided to start our new and improved life after the upcoming Chinese New Year's festivities.
- After next Sunday it is party maximum time a week.
- Yes, Saturday only
- And if we break this it will cost us 10,000 Baht every time.
My friend would also join us in school, starting next Monday. We would also give up smoking
We got off the Song Taew at the dive shop in Jomtien and we walked down to the beach. My friends doesn't know where The News is so we were going to meet them at Soi 7 where they have a condo.
My friend had a terrible accident a few years back. He felt off a train in Thailand and he is in a wheel chair. He cannot move or talk, the only way of communication is by lifting his hand, meaning yes. Moving the hand back and forth means no. But he understands everything we say to him. Swedish, English or Chinese is no problem.
He used to work as a journalist in Taiwan so he is fluent in Chinese. And how did he end up in Taiwan. Well, he wrote something bad about China when he lived in China so he was not welcome to China and thus he had to move to Taiwan.
I recognised my friend and his wife when they came down on Soi 7. My friend's wife's mother. But I didn't recognise the other two girls. I knew that my friend's wife's sister was in Jomtien as well. She and her mother visited Jomtien for a week before returning to Taiwan next week.
I asked my friend if he knew who the girl was. He had been with me last time we had dinner together in Pattaya.
- Is that the sister? I asked.
- I don't know
- I don't remember her as beautiful.
The sister was a real stunner. Well, maybe it is another sister but no, it turned out to be the same sister.
- Why haven't you called me? I asked.
- I don't have your number
- I gave it to you!
- No, you never gave me your number
- Yes, I did!
- NO, YOU NEVER GAVE ME YOUR NUMBER!!
We took a Song Taew to the restaurant and it didn't take long before I had ordered salmon with potatoes in dill sauce. Excellent food and it was a good evening even though it is hard to see my friend. I remember back in the days when we were out partying 24/7. Well, life can really change within a second. One moment you're having a fag on the train and the next second you're lying paralysed next to the track. Yes, talk about a life changer.
We spent an hour or so at the restaurant before my friends returned home and I was a wee bit disappointed. I had expected to go see a movie with the sister. And these Chinese women, unbelievable, the sister turned out to be 38 years old.
- What the
I would have guessed 25 or 26 tops. Same with the girl at Yammy Kitchen in Go:teborg. I felt off the chair when I was told that she was 40 years old.
- What the
I would have guessed between 25 and 30.
My friend and I took a Song Taew back to Pattaya and we walked the Beach Road to Central Festival. We had agreed on that it would be nice with a rhubarb pie at Goose's Fish & Chips restaurant on Second Road. I remembered that I was running low on my Thai Airways perfume when we were passing the perfume department at Central Festival. I bought a bottle of the Thai Airways perfume before we continued to Goose's Fish & Chips restaurant.
We had done a lot of walking today and as it was our last night in Pattaya we decided not only to have the rhubarb pie so we topped up our order with a Fish & Chips.
We won't be able to find a good Fish & Chips until next time at Goose's in Pattaya. And it doesn't look like we're going to be back here in a long time.
And the rhubarb pie with custard is worth the taxi ride from Bangkok. If you want the most bang for your taxi money I recommend a stop for the salmon with potatoes in dill sauce at The News restaurant in Jomtien as well.
And after the Fish & Chips and the rhubarb pie with custard we had to roll back to our hotel around the corner. I got my key in the reception and I went up to my room and finished my web page before I went to bed.
Wednesday 2nd of February 2011 and I woke up 20 minutes past 7. They had started with the Chinese New Year and the fire crackers sounded like a machine gun. I managed to fall asleep again. But when my alarm (still in school week mood) went off at 8 o'clock I got out of bed.
A breakfast and we will hopefully soon be heading back home to Bangkok.
We ate our breakfast, I had my omelette and toast as always. When we finished breakfast we went to find a taxi and we found one at the corner to Second Road. It was a big taxi and as my friend has his painting we booked the car.
- We will be back in 30 minutes
We went to the hotel to get our bags and to check out. We were back in less than 30 minutes and now they had another car for us. An old junker from the 80's and we refused to go in that car. We tried another taxi stand across the street but we told them to GET REAL when they tried to F@CK us over. DARN!
We returned back to the hotel and we got a taxi for 1600 Baht but my friends painting didn't fit in to the car. By now we had the whole hotel staff involved with my friends painting.
We booked a SUV or whatever they call the car. 2500 Baht and I told my friend that the painting started to be a wee bit expensive.
- Never mind, the painting to FUNKY TOWN or bust!
No problem to get the painting in to the SUV and we were soon on our way to FUNKY TOWN. Nice to leave Pattaya behind for a while. Last time I left I thought it would be a very very long time before I would be back and I was back in less than a week. So I would keep my mouth shut this time.
Thursday 3rd of February 2011 and my alarm is still in school week mood so the alarm went off at o8 'clock. Luckily enough I managed to fall asleep again and I woke up at 11 thirty. Nice, I need all the sleep I can get with today's Chinese New Year's festivities in China Town.
I will meet my friend at 2 o'clock and we will take off towards China Town together. And we will hopefully see one of those big Chinese dragons. And there might be a chance that we will run in to a beer or two. The Chinese New Year means party!
So I was off to see him at the Asok/ Sukhumvit intersection at 2 o'clock and then we see if we go by taxi or if we take the Subway to Hua Lamphong and taxi from there. Well, my bet is that we will take a taxi all the way.
I meet my friend at the entrance to the Subway station and he suggested that we should go by subway to Hua Lamphong so we went down to the subway station. We got off the subway at the end station, Hua Lamphong train station.
We bought 2 diet drinks and we drank them while having a quick cancer stick. There was a queue for the taxi so we decided to walk to China Town, well, Hua Lamphong is just on the other side of the canal so it was just to cross the bridge and we were in China Town. It took us about 10 minutes to walk to Songsawat Road.
The street was closed for traffic and the streets were crowded with people. A lot of food stalls along the road, but no beers in sight.
We walked down the Songsawat Road and we saw a Beer Chang tap outside Hotel China Town. But as we don't drink Beer Chang we went inside.
We were hoping to find San Miguel Light inside but they only had Beer Chang , Beer Singh and Heineken. So the choice was not hard, Heineken is drinkable with ice. And if you drink it from a wine glass its even tasting, well, OK.
We had 5 beers and we went out on the street again to check out the festivities. It was fun for 20 minutes and then we got feed up walking in the crowd. We needed a bathroom, and I mean REALLY. But all the restaurants and shops were closed in China Town. Well, of course, not on Songsawat Road, but there was millions of people.
We walked around and China Town really was empty, no people around and we were surprised when we saw people outside a shop
after 30 minutes walking.
next time, please give the bathroom a “thank you” for letting us use the bathroom courtesy scrub. Think it will be appreciated
But they didn't sell any beers and they didn't have any bathroom. But they pointed across the street.
We bought two big Heineken and we borrowed their bathroom. And this was a nasty bathroom. Would have been impossible to use if it hadn't been for 6 bottles of Heineken. But now it was no problem, but we didn't hang around longer than necessary.
We bought two big bottles of Heineken, the best they had to offer. Seems like San Miguel Light isn't very popular in China Town. We said thank you and we left to look for a taxi.
We found a taxi and we loaded the CD player with my TAXI CD and we took off towards Khao San Road. We walked to a bar and we were soon sitting with two San Miguel Lights in front of us.
And of course, we took charge over the entertainment centre and Lord Finesse was on full blast. And the staff loved it, no one can sit still when The Funky Technician is on full blast.
And did the San Miguel Light disappear fast? We didn't spend many minutes' with the bottles. We don't want to drink warm beer. We changed place after 12? 14? beers. We moved to an Indian restaurant across the street for some Indian food.
Vitamins and energy, just what we needed. And Indian Naan and Pharata bread is very tasty.
When we finished our dinner we continued to Rambuttri Road and we passed a bar with live music. And it was very good music so we went inside and we ordered San Miguel Light. San Miguel Light, the best beer in the world? Probably!
A guy with a drum and another guy playing guitar. Don't sounds like much, but it was excellent music.
The band finished playing and we listened to Lord Finesse while waiting for the next entertainer to start playing. A one man band playing some country styled music so we asked for the bill and left.
I remember it like we took a taxi to Thong Lor and FUNKY Villa. I had two bottles of vodka at FUNKY and I had the tickets in my valet. Well, we would have been better off staying at Banglampoo.
Friday 4th of February 2011 and I stayed in bed all day long. It was 8 o'clock in the evening when I got down to the Japanese restaurant at Prasanmit Plaza. Avocado and salmon sushi and I topped up with an curry rice. I was soon back home in bed watching DVD.
So Friday the fourth of February 2011 will go down the history books as a wasted day.
Saturday 5th of February 2011 and when I woke up I scanned the TV channels for the news. I went through all the Thai channels. No news and I turned on BBC and I found out that the Thai and Cambodian armies had exchanged artillery shells with each other at the border at the disputed ancient Preah Vihear temple.
It was all stupid game shows on the Thai TV channels so at thirst I thought it was about the last clashes between the Thai and Cambodians a few years back. But obviously it was from yesterday. I went to check out Bangkok Post and I got it confirmed.
Strange, I find it very very unlikely that Swedish TV would have stupid game shows and quizzes on the TV if we were exchanging artillery fire with Denmark. There would have been live updates and news about it 24/7.
Well, I could read that: An uneasy ceasefire was holding at the border with Cambodia after fierce fighting left two dead and resulted in the capture of five Thai rangers. So this is hopefully over by now. But I have my doubts, in order to avoid falling in to oblivion the Yellow Shirts are out to make trouble about the Preah Vihear temple.
But hmm, can't help but wondering if we are going to have Cambodian tanks rolling down Sukhumvit Road.
My friend came home to me at 7 and we had a few beers. I had called SCAN DELI on Sukhumvit Soi 16 to ask what time they were closing the restaurant.
- Nine thirty or 10 o'clock.
- Thanks', I might come by for a salmon.
But we weren't hungry after a few beers and we took a taxi to Sarasin. No San Miguel Light so we had to order Heineken, better than beer Singh.
I had not even finished my first beer when the bar stool felt apart under me. A major embarrassment, but I discovered that the stool was repaired by tape. Yes, ordinary office tape and I found out that all the other chairs were repaired with tape.
I don't remember how many Heineken we had, but it was quite a few and we moved next door. They had San Miguel Light so no problem to choose beer. My friend had two female friends coming over to Sarasin and when they arrived it was impossible to speak with him.
Well, I ended up on a table next to two girls and I had a laugh. It was really nice to talk with them and when they had had a glass of wine they were drunk.
I took a taxi to Banglampoo and I ended up in a club. No San Miguel Light, but they had Tiger Light so the choice was really not very hard.
I spoke with a girl and her friends, they were really nice and we cracked a few jokes and, yes, it happens that I hand out my name card and I handed the girl my name card. And I swear to God. The music stopped, I saw three of the bouncers coming running towards me. He friends were screaming “NO GOOD!” I don't know what all the fuzz was about, but when they saw my card they were all laughing and it went back to normal.
I had a few Tiger Light at the place before moving on. And it was a very fun evening and I think it was thanks' to beer only. No cocktails or vodka so no sleeping in bars.
Before going home I had a corn on the cob and I stopped at 7 Eleven for a few bottles of orange juice and bread. In to a taxi and I were soon back home in bed. But I never looked at my wrist watch so I don't know what time it was. But who cares what time it was?
Sunday 6th of February 2011 and I woke up around 10 o'clock. Not feeling too bad. I only drank beer yesterday and I had one of my best nights out. When we open a bottle of vodka the night usually crash within an hour. Drinking beers comes with a higher price tag, but it is worth it. And believe it or not, are you sitting down? Hold on to something sturdy! I actually remembers how I got home yesterday! I don't remember coming home one single night when we have been drinking vodka.
I went to the Japanese restaurant on Prasanmit Plaza with my EX Teacher. When we left the restaurant they motorcycle taxi drivers were waving red flags and they had put a giant Thai flag on one of the motorcycles.
Of course, when they drove away the flag pole got stuck in the trees. Well, could not help but wondering what would happen when these guys get stuck in something overhead when plunging down the roads in 100.
Well, red shirt meeting or some nationalistic meeting due to the latest clashes at the Cambodian border. I don't know. But when the war mongers pulling the nationalistic string the poor is soon forgetting the hunger when they are full of nationalistic pride.
I returned home to my hangover DVDs and I left for some hangover milk at my local 7 Eleven before going for some salmon at SCAN DELI on Sukhumvit Road Soi 16.
I took a taxi to SCAN DELI and I ordered a salmon with salmon sauce and boiled potato.
- How much salmon do you want?
Pros and cons with SCAN DELI. Yes, one of the pros is that they ask how much salmon you want. You pay by the weight. Yes, we remember my adventure in Cambodia where my salmon platter looked like I got a kilo of salmon but it turned out to be 4 slices and lettuce under the salmon.
I told them that they could take all their smoked salmon and divide it in to two.
- Take half of your salmon for the salmon sauce and boiled potato.
Then I asked them to take the other half and serve it with dill creamed potatoes.
- Do you want two plates?
- Yeep, no problem.
I got my salmon with salmon sauce and boiled potato. DARN! It was a huge helping and I had problem finishing my order. Then they waiter showed up with two plates. I thought that they had made a mistake but when he came to my table I saw that one plate was full of salmon and one plate was full of dill creamed potatoes. And at SCAN DELI they have really big plates.
- What the is this? I'm full and I can't eat all that
- Do you want to take it home?
- Yes, I can have it for lunch tomorrow.
So Sunday 6th of February 2011 will go down the history book as the first time I'm asking for a doggy bag. Well, I walked back home to Soi 23 and I stopped for a 2 hours massage. No, I don't like massage so it was scratching only and I paid 400 Baht extra and I got the scratching at home while watching Simpson. Worth every penny!
When I had got 2 hours of scratching I went to check out the online edition of Bangkok Post. The fighting at the Thai/ Cambodian had started again and it looks like it is getting serious. Yes, the poor bastards are our waving flags or buried in the mud shooting at other poor people while the warmongers are sitting in safety drinking expensive wines making money and fame out of it.
One thing is for sure, my new life starts tomorrow with school and we have a running bet. Party maximum once a week and Saturdays only. And if you want to check out my NEW IMPROVED AND HEALTHY LIFE just click the link.
