Sunday 25th of February 2018 and my alarm went off at 5 o'clock. I left at 7 to look for a taxi. Light Sunday morning traffic so I had quite some time to spend at the airport before it was time to board Thai Smile's flight WE 160 to Chiang Mai. Drinking soda water eating spinach quiche and time passed kind of quickly.
Boarding the flight and well, the flight was OK, just an hour and we started to descend to Chiang Mai. I bought booked an Airport Taxi while waiting for my luggage. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the taxi service. Thailand and you kind of expect to be scammed and to go through a lot of trouble to get from the airport.
A big and comfortable car and it was 150 Baht so I was very happy. Checking in to my room and I will have lunch before going to Lanna Rama 9 Park to look for birds.

Chiang Mai curry soup for lunch
I had been looking forward to the Chiang Mai curry soup so of course, I had a bowl of soup with two servings of steamed rice. I booked an Uber car, took two tries before I had a car and we were soon on our way to Lanna Rama 9 Park.
The Driver asked if I wanted him to come back and pick me up. Good idea and I got his phone number and I was off to go look for birds. The Lanna Rama 9 Park is for sure not looking very inviting, looking very dry and garbage everywhere. I was soon, well, the Common Mynas was all over the park. But I was soon spotting the Olive-backed Sunbird
Walking towards the monument at the center of the park. There was a three with red flowers and there were several birds in the three. I spotted Olive-backed Sunbirds and Coppersmith Barbets in the tree. Of course, Common Mynas everywhere. Looking around the tress and it didn't take long to see a Black Drongo and a female Asian Koel.
Continue walking towards the west side of the park. Coming around the ponds, looking like they have done some work redecorating the ponds with new stones on the sides/ walls.
In the south west corner of the park and there is a couple of the trees with the reddish flowers. The area was full of Olive-backed Sunbirds and Scarlet-backed Flowerpeckers. The birds were jumping around so it was next to impossible to get any pictures.
I had my flash on the camera and there was a Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker sitting in the shadow. I could not see the bird through the camera viewer so I just took pictures by chance.
Back at the centre of the park there was a group of Scaly-breasted Munia. I could hear a black-collared Starling and I spotted the bird in top of a bush. The Black-collared Starling was calling from the top of the bush. I made a recording while trying to get closer to get a picture.
Suddenly the bird was joined by another bird in top of the bush. Time to make babies? When I came closer the birds took off leaving me alone. There was a group of Scaly-breasted Munias in the grass and I tried to get a picture of the very scared bird.
I called the taxi and I asked him to be here at 18 thirty and I was walking around looking for birds. I was chasing a Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker but I never managed to get any picture. The park is full of Asian Koels and I could hear them all over the park, but I never managed to spot any of them. Well, I saw the female Asian Koel when I arrived here.
The driver was early and I left the park quarter past 6. Back to the hotel where I will go to bed, we will leave for Doi Inthanon at 5 o'clock so my alarm is set to go off at 4 o'clock in the morning. I had tea in my room and I was in bed at 10 o'clock. I had been to the MiniMart to buy breakfast that I will prepare in my room tomorrow morning. They start serving breakfast at 6 in the restaurant, but by then we will hopefully be well on our way to Doi Inthanon

On my way back to the hotel
We expect to be at Doi Inthanon at 7 o'clock, by the time it starts to get day light. Last time I stayed in a hut in the forest, but already back then I decided never to stay in the forest again. So we will go back to Chiang Mai and the hotel in the afternoon.
Anyway, click HERE to find out if we find any birds.
OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
