   Sunday 7th of April 2019 and my alarm went off at 4 o´clock giving me ample time for a shower. We left the ship at 04:45 and we went to look for the driver from our “inn” Pension OSHIDORI which means Mandarin Duck in Japanese. We were soon in the car on our way. We left the bags at the “inn”. I was not very happy to discover that there were no furniture in my room, sleeping on the floor. Anyway, I hope to see many of the birds in the checklists my Guide sent to me.   What the!!!?? Where is the furnitures? What the!!!?? Where is the furnitures? What the!!!?? Where is the furnitures?We leave Pension OSHIDORI and their Driver took us to the Miyake Nature Center. My Guide will go to pick up our rented car at 8 o'clock while I stay at the Tairoike Pond to look for birds. 三宅島--大路池 (Miyakejima--Tairo-ike)
Park your car at Miyake Nature Center and check the walk path for Izu Trushes before walking up to the Miyake Nature Center. They are there in the morning. You can walk on a dirt path from Miyake Nature Center to the Tairoike Pond. But you can also drive your car on a dust road to the north platform. Tairoike Pond and Miyake Nature Center is a fantastic place for bird watching. A very beautiful area to walk around enjoying the sights and bird song. And I really like that you can take your car. There are water birds along the dramatic lava rock coast line. Great Egrets and one Intermediate Egret was looking for food. Many Cormorants on the rocks. It was a little too windy to enjoy the bird watching fully. Sea gulls was sitting on the lava rocks and the area is well worth a visit.   Intermediate Egret next to a Great Egret

We drove north on the east side of the island and I checked my eBird map, next birding hotspot was the Yakushido Temple. Takes about 30 minutes to drive a circle around the island so it took us about 15 minutes to reach the NW corner and the Yakushido Temple. We parked the car and we spent some time at the temple. We walked back towards the car and we spotted a Japanese Robin, a very beautiful bird. But the picture wasn't any good so this was a disappointment. We left the area and we drove to see if we could see any birds at the Izu Cape. Coming down to the Izu Cape Light House and we only see two crows sitting and watching a couple having picnic lunch. We parked the car, and BOOM! The crows came to sit above us to see if we had any food for them.  Two crows watching a couple having picnic lunch

    We didn't stay long as it was very windy and no sign of any exciting birds. We left Izu Cape driving back to Tairoike Pond and Miyake Nature Center for the last birding for today. We start at the Miyake Nature Center to look for the Izu Thrush, but no pictures. Back at the platform and we park the car at the parking lot at the Tairoike Pond. My Guide told me that there had been a Mandarin Duck reported to be in the pond. We could see the Mandarin Duck down at the south platform. We started to walk along the pond on the track between north and the south platforms. We see a Japanese Cormorant, and of course, several White-eyes, Ijima's Warblers and Japanese Bush Warblers. There was a couple of Coots swimming in the pond close to the Mandarin Duck.  Japanese Cormorant / ウミウ

  Tairoike Pond and Miyake Nature Center is a very beautiful area and I really want to come back again, well, we will be back tomorrow for some “Good morning” bird watching. We drove back to  Pension Oshidori. No place to sit down in my room so I had to sit in the restaurant until it was time for dinner.
Dinner at 18 thirty and it was what I had expected on a Japanese Island, fish, all  courses was something with fish. It was very good, well, except the fish head. In bed at 9 with the alarm set to go off at 4 o´clock.
