Sunday 12th of August 2024 and my alarm went off at 4 o'clock and I was out of bed 10 minutes later. Turning on the kettle first thing and after a few minutes I enjoyed my tea with a “TUNA & ONION SURPRISE” ® while waiting for my friend. They will arrive at 5 thirty and I left 20 minutes after 5 o'clock. I stopped at the vending machine for an refreshment. My friend arrived after 15 minutes and we were soon on our way to the wedding.  Early morning look out on my balcony

 Light early Sunday morning traffic and we were soon on the toll way. I was in the back enjoying my refreshment, well, I tried to sleep. The weeding is at the army club close to the Suan Rot Fai. We arrived to the Royal Thai Army Club (สโมสรทหารบก) quarter past 6 and the wedding starts at 7 o'clock. We had a look around before we entered an almost empty room. The room was prepared with chairs and there were seats along one of the walls for the monks. More people arrive, but most of the visitors skip this step on the weddings I have been to, most of them turns up for the food.  Royal Thai Army Club/ สโมสรทหารบก

 The monks arrive and they take their seats along the wall. The ceremony starts and they are chanting/ praying starting to wind up a white string. The pass on the string so all the monks carry it in front of them. The chanting/ prayer continued and it went on and on and I thought it was never coming to an end. It stopped and they handed out flowers and stuff. I thought it had come to an end but they were soon continuing again. I was not sad when it came to an end. Now we will have a coffee break and they will prepare the room for the next step in the wedding ceremony.  Pulling out the white string

They are serving coffee and breakfast while waiting, but as I am on diet I skip the refreshments. After 20 minutes or so and we are back in the room. Now they are showing the SIN SOD, the bride price and they bring out cash and gold. The wedding rings are also brought out for display. They put on the rings and now they are married. When the SIN SOD ceremony is ready, they prepare and the closest relatives’ hand over money in an envelope and they get a “goodie” bag in return.  Getting married

When they are ready with the envelopes it is time to pour water over the newlywed couple. We line up for the water pouring and I was stand-by to take a video of my friend pouring the water. I miss the video button and I never get a video. But my friend makes a video when I pour the water. We leave the room, next thing to do is to eat in the ball room. Food will be served at 11 o'clock so we had a wee bit of time to kill. So, we went to look for our table and we took our seats. There were snacks on the table and we were served drinks, plain water for me and orange juice for my friends. Orange juice, well, that was until they discovered that there was whiskey on the trays the Waiters was carrying around. A quick glimpse and it looked like they were offering water, juice and coke from the tray. At a closer look and my friend saw amber coloured water. He asked what it was. - Whiskey and soda  He asked for whiskey and he had them coming.

 We are soon getting bored waiting and I have discovered the wedding cake and we go to have a look. The cake looks fake, but this have been the case on the Thai weddings I have attended. Of course, I think there is around 500 ++ wedding guests so they would have had to have a giant cake. Not to talk about everyone coming to cut a piece of the cake. Would have taken less than a minute before the cake would have looked like someone had been dancing on the cake. And wedding cake, it is a western tradition they like in Thailand, so there have to be a wedding cake. And the first pieces are served to the guest of honour and the parents. The smartest solution I have seen was at my friend's wedding. The wedding cake had the fake top and the rest was a steel frame and each level had pieces of cakes on beautiful serving bowls. We were soon growing bored of taking pictures of the wedding cake. There was a wall-to-wall screen on the wall behind the wedding cake. And my friend was suddenly showing up on the screen with his wife. They had a wall with flowers where people could have their pictures taken. I went out to see what was going on and I took the opportunity to have a few pictures.  On the screen

 We went back to our table and they were soon bringing the food. I think there was 7 or 8 different dishes and they brought them one by one. We started with a plate of spring rolls, shrimps and fried fish. One common plate on the Chinese styled turn table. We had our own plate and bowl and there were dipping sauces on the turn table as well. 2nd dish, was a thick soup followed by shrimps. Chicken and then a duck and I was getting full. The food was good, nothing that I had expected. At the end of the meal, they turned off the light and the newlywed, now changed clothes. I felt sorry for the girl in the morning. She had a dress and she could not walk or anything and it looked very uncomfy. And there was something hanging from the dress and every time she changes position there was a “DRESS SUPPORT TEAM” arranging and folding the thing hanging from the dress. Should always look good, so wherever she sat down the “DRESS SUPPORT TEAM” came to arrange the excess fabric neatly on the floor. Now they came, he is wearing is uniform and she was wearing a traditional western bride dress. And poor girl, she could hardly walk and getting up the few steps on the stair to the cake was  almost impossible.
Imagine dragging two thick quilts behind you. The dress was very beautiful, actually, it was a gorgeous dress. But her “DRESS SUPPORT TEAM” of 4 were busy with the train (I think it is called the train) and she needed assistants from all of them climbing the steps. At times it looked like she was horizontal (in all directions) while getting up the stairs. But she made it up and now we had the military coming up to make an honour guard or what they call it. Up with the swords and the newlywed walked to the wedding cake at the end of the catwalk and to do the “cake cut” ceremony.    She made it to the cat walk

The “cake cut” ceremony came to an end and it was easier for the bride to get down from the cat walk. They stopped at the guest of honour and I think it was one of the Generals in the Thai Army. Going to a wedding in Thailand and there is always some guest of honour The bride's parents received the second piece of cake, but it took a while before the “DRESS SUPPORT TEAM” to get the dress in order behind the bride. The husband's parents got the third piece of cake and with this the ceremony was coming to an end we had been there for more than 7 hours.  Guest of honour gets the first cake

 The newlywed went out to the photo area and the guest could have pictures with the newlywed before they got back home. My friend's wife went there while me and my friend were waiting at the elevator ready to go back to Samut Prakan. Monday tomorrow and it is a red day. So, Chaiyasit Muay Thai Gym is closed and there will be no session with The Red Devil (ปีศาจแดง ก.กุมานนท์) and I have planned to go look for birds with my “Bird Watching” scooter.
