Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersk

Tuesday 1st of September 2015 and we kept our self busy with the valve in the ballast tank 6 Port during the day. Pumping up water to the drain tank. Removing the valve on the ballast over board Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskpipe. Pumping up the water oil mix took a long time with the small Wilden pump.

Pump Man brought the valve to the engine room where
Teddyhe was starting with the overhaul the overboard valve. So we will start early tomorrow morning to put it back and then we will clean the tank. Well, two of my TOP GUNS will do the cleaning. I expect it to be a pretty quick operation. Checking the compass error on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskThe tank is small and the best guys on the job in the tank.

Evening on the bridge was spent drinking tea, so it was OK. The only thing missing is a few Humpback whales jumping around us.

But nothing since we left Tamatave, except for two whales 2 days ago. No sharks and no excitements at all.

and I was in the CCR for the morning meeting at 6 o'clock. We will finish the ballast tank 6 Port today or BUST! So the guys are on 6 on 6 off on the bridge this Tool box meeting on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskmorning. All crew were in my office when I stepped through the door 2 minutes before 6 o'clock with a can of Diet MAX in my hand. We started with a tool box regarding general work and painting.

The Painters were off to deck and the rest of the crew went to start the forced ventilation. They were soon back for the entry permit and tool box meeting. Hard working and we (the crew, but it feels better with a “we”) were ready just in time for lunch. I had was is Tool box meeting on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully my last lunch.

And as it is Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully my last lunch I had a plate of ice cream before I returned back to my cabin.

No sleep, advancing the ship's time tonight and I need to be tired so I can fall asleep early tonight. So the afternoon was spent with videos, of which no one was any of the Learn Thai with Mod and the Alif Silpachai videos. Sad, and even sadder is Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stthat I have not had the time to open my Thai books yet. Well, now when the ballast tank 6 Port is ready there might be some spare time to improve my Thai “skills”.

Thursday 3rd of September 2015
and I was down in ballast tank 2 WT Port after 10 o'clock with Pump Man. The tank looks good and we opened the man hole between the WT and the DB so it is ready for entry tomorrow.

Lunch again, darn. And I topped the lunch with a lump of nutella with a sandwich under it. And I'll be darned, a spoon full of nutella on top of that. A tea spoon...? Well, I would like to repress the whole lunch incident. I was soon back in my cabin for some video, or as we call it now a days, DVD

and it was gloom and grey for as long as I could see when the day light was breaking over the Indian Ocean. Passing showers and a force 7 blowing from the SE. We Hard work on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskheld our Tool box meeting and the crew went on deck. They started preparing Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stballast tank DB 2 Port for inspection.

Pump Man and I will go down there after 10 o'clock, but first my power nap.

The crew left to get started with the work on deck and I had time for two more buckets of tea before it was 8 o'clock and time for me to get off the watch.

And when I left the bridge at 8 I was straight in bed and I slept until my alarm went off at 10. I was still very tired.

and today is the day I found my Thai books and I placed them at my bed side table. Tomorrow will be the day I find the time to study?

Sunday 6th of September 2015
and yet another uneventfull day we can put behind us and one day closer to Singapore where we expect to be early morning on the 12th of september. 4 or 5 Look out on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskbuckets of tea and suddenly it was 8 o'clock and I went for breakfast with Captain.

When I was back on the bridge for my afternoon/ evening watch we increased the main engine to 127 rpm from 107 rpm.

Suddenly we're in a hurry to reach Singapore and we were soon flying over the Indian Ocean with a new ETA on the 11th of september.

We are advancing ship's time by one hour at 7 o'clock in the evening and it was 9 o'clock when me Look out on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskand the AB on watch could leave the bridge. 2 episodes of the “White collar” before I was off to bed.

No time to Learn Thai with Mod and the Alif Silpachai videos but I watched, well, I was listening to the Learn Thai with Mod and the Alif Silpachai videos while reading about some of the Indian national parks and Tiger safari in my cabin earlier in the afternoon.

Well, if we're going to Thailand to load it can come in handy with a few Thai words and thus I need to practise with my books and videos.

Monday 7th of September 2015
and we went down to the ballast tank WT 2 Stb after 10 o'clock. It was a gorgeous but hot day. The strong wind disappeared yesterday, early morning and now we have 27°C and rising water temp.

No wind and no water spray on deck and the guys can kick arse with the painting and cup brushing. Water spray on deck and they have mostly been chipping and now we can paint. And before they finished for the day we moved the old mooring ropes from the rope store aft. They are going ashore as garbage and we prepare if we get the garbage boat in Singapore, just to lift them off.

and it is starting to get very hot. 1 day to go to Malacca Strait 2nd Officer on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskand it was very hot in the ballast tank when we inspected DB 2 on starboard side.

Tank was clear @ 11:55 and coming to lunch was an instant disappointment. Our Mess Man had promised me to give me a “kicken in the assen” if I showed up for lunch.

Well, he didn't keep his promise and to make things worse I finished lunch with two “double” toast with a kilo of nutella between the toasts. This was not good and I was disappointed when I left, mostly at myself!

Wednesday 9th of September 2015
and we're still steering 045° towards Rondo L/H and Malacca Strait when I come on the bridge at 5 o'clock in the morning. Ship's time advanced by an hour last night. We had heavy rain falling over us so the deck will be cleaned from salt by the time the boys start to paint on deck.

Gloom and grey for as long as I could see but no wind and it was kind of a nice morning. I passed a huge group of Dolphins or small whales. They were for sure not quick like Dolphins but quite slow.

I opened my Thai books during the afternoon, 20 minutes of study, a slow start and I expect to kick arse within very soon! When I came on the bridge at 4 o'clock we had just changed course M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersk in Malacca Straitto 90°

Entering Malacca Strait and we passed Rondo just after 5 o'clock. Plenty ships, on coming ships and I changed a few degrees to star board dodging a long line of big tankers bound for the Indian Ocean. I was soon having the kettle on and it didn't take long before I had a M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersk in Malacca Straitbucket of hot vanilla flavoured tea in my hand. Sipping the tea while listening to Polish Hip Hop watching two ABs and the Chief Engineer putting back the door to the bridge wing.

The door have been off for two days for maintenance and now the paint is dry so we can put back the door. Well, it moves easier and it is a wee bit less noisy now. So it was worth going through the trouble?

I got a few pictures out of it, but no sign of any big fishes during my watch. But the time passed quickly with all the traffic coming towards us just north of the Rondo island. We even saw a little of the sun in the evening.

Otherwise it was gloom and grey for as long as I could see. When it was getting dark I could see flashes in the horizon. Well, there have been thunder and lightning the last two days. Luckily Hard work on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskenough it has been raining during the dark hours and the crew have been able to paint all day long.

We have received confirmation that the barge bringing the stores in Singapore will bring back our garbage ashore and we have 8 mooring ropes going ashore as garbage.

So our crew arranged the ropes during the evening so we are prepared when we arrive Singapore on Friday night. Still no berthing prospects so it can be berthing at arrival, or as well, waiting for a few days.

and we were still steering on an Easterly course when I came on the bridge 4 o'clock in the morning. They boys came for a tool box meeting at 6 o'clock. We held Tool box meeting on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskthe meeting but as our computer was down I could not print the minutes and get their signatures.

I told them to go drink tea or hot chocolate until 8 and to meet me in my cabin at 8 o'clock. But NO COFFEE, only tea or hot chocolate.

We had heavy showers in the morning, but they were soon gone leaving us salt free ready for painting on deck. But no work until I have completed the tool box. And the guys need a cup of tea or hot chocolate after all the hard work on deck.

I changed course to 135° at 06:54 and we're getting deeper and deeper in to the Malacca Strait. I saw some small fishing boats just before I left the bridge at 8 o'clock so it is getting exciting on board Romø Mærsk.

We finished the tool box meeting and I had a power nap before going to make my discharge plan for Singapore. By the time it was lunch I was ready for discharging, only the pre arrival tests and checks to be done before we can start discharging.

... he found use for himself going down to post my new “DIET BET” in the mess room

Coming on the bridge at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and it was an gorgeous afternoon. Malacca Strait looked like a windmill pond. Captain was soon on the bridge.
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- Now you can water your potted trees!
- What?
- You can give water to your plants
- What are you on about?
- Next voyage, loading in Thailand

So it seems like our next loading port is in Thailand, well, I can get internet with my phone and Fishing boat stopped by the Indonesian police in Malacca Straitthat is something I look forward to. On board, well, hard even to send a simple e-mail.

Thailand and Tiger safari in India, I'm better off to get serious with my diet. I gave Captain my “DIET BET” and I asked him to post it in the mess room when he went for dinner and I will Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully stay well clear of the mess room in the future. And the V-shaped torso, well, I keep my hopes up.

He left and I had a trawler crossing my bow from star board. There was also a small speed boat Malacca Strait piratescoming from starboard, pirates?

Turned out that the speed boat was the Indonesian police, and, well, it is pretty Fishing boat stopped by the Indonesian police in Malacca Straitmuch the same as pirates. They boarded the trawler and I'm pretty sure they we're looking for gift and gratitude’s. Yes, no one is too poor for giving away tokens of appreciation.

We had soon put the trawler and police behind us steaming towards Singapore. The crew came on deck after dinner to continue with the painting. They are chipping and painting the fish plate and when this is ready we will take the hull. And I was happy to see that our tool box meetings are NOT all for nothing.

They are wearing all the safety equipment we had discussed this morning. I told them that they had to wear a safety harness at all time as we didn't wanted anyone to fall over board.

It was soon dark and at 7 we advanced ship's time by an hour. Time had been very quickly and when I left the bridge at 9 o'clock we had plenty fishing boats and ships around us. This is the things making the time pass very quickly on the bridge.

And tomorrow evening we will arrive to the anchorage in Singapore where we will get store and provision. The beginning of a new adventure. Just click HERE and you will be in the middle of it.
