Sundai Linggi, Malaysia 19 August 2017 - Picture by Aladdin
Saturday 11th of November 2017 and I'm outside the hotel when the van comes to pick me up. We loaded all my boxes and shit in to the back of the car. Oatmeal and Pepsi MAX to last me for 2 weeks or so. They came from the airport so our new Mess Man was in the back of the van. We took of towards Malaysia through a rainy Singapore.
Jaha, nu ska det bäras igen
Our driver told me that it would take 2 to 3 hours to reach Johor Bahru and I was surprised. I told him that I made it down here in 30 minutes last Saturday when I was going to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. He told me that it was Saturday and the border would be full of people going to Malaysia.

Approaching the border and BOOM! The traffic comes to a full stop

I was lucky to have had my bread and diet Pepsi. 2 hours to reach the immigration and I was hungry. So I had my bread that I bought at Ngee Ann City earlier today. But now I was in good mood. We will soon be at the hotel. But I had forgot the immigration in Malaysia. Waiting and waiting and it took like forever to get to the immigration.
Our Driver was supposed to have been at a wedding party at 5 o'clock. Well, it was way after 6 when we were through the immigration in Johor Bahru so he had pretty much given up the idea to reach the wedding party. On the way across the bridge between Singapore and Johor Bahru I had time to look at Johor Bahru.
Way more time than I had ever wished for. But Johor Bahru was not to recognise from when I was here last time for the firefighting course. New high risers all over town.
An hour later and we reached the immigration in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. We pass through and we park the car and we go to the immigration office.

Finally!! At the immigration in Malaysia - And I discover that it is forbidden to play the guitar
Tedious, and time was very slow and we were not even allowed to play the guitar
And we're reminded yet again about the guitar ban
Almost our turn
As we're joining a ship we need to go visit the immigration office
There is a special motor cycle lane through immigration that I study while waiting for the paper work

We get our paper work done and we leave the immigration. Our Agent met us at the immigration office and he was now in our car. We will change car in Johor Bahru. Our driver will go back to Singapore and we will go to a hotel with the Agent.
Our Agent will come to pick us up later on for a boat trip to Roy Mærsk. She is on Tanjung Pelepas anchorage waiting to come in to Tanjung Bin to load fuel oil. So we will join as soon as she have port clearance. I went to the restaurant and I joined our Mess Man for dinner. While we were eating we had a guy from the table next to us coming over to ask if we were going to join Roy Mærsk.
Turned out that it was a Danish Cadet joining together with us. He asked if I was responsible for www.aladdin.st
- Why? I asked
- I was looking for Roy on the internet and your page came up
Our hotel for an hour or two
Our hotel for an hour or two
He had been studying the life on board m/t Roy Mærsk before coming here. His first tanker so he knew nothing, but after having visited www.aladdin.st he knew a lot more. He said it was a good idea and there was a lot of pictures.
- My wife can see what we're doing
- Is that I good thing? I asked
- Oh, yes, he said
So we decided to take a picture so his wife have something to look at back home in Denmark. And I suggested that we could make this in to a daily “thing” as his wife obviously can't get enough of him on the internet.
Well, whatever rocks your boat, and who am I to say no. So we took picture #1. Don't be surprised to find more of the Cadet's picture. Will he make it in to the Hard working Mr. Dynamite galley?
Well, we will see and this promise to be interesting. A little to kill time with until it is time to sign off again. And this time I wouldn't mind to stay on board for a little longer. Tiger season in Nepal in April.
Our Cadet and Mess Man
I wa sin my room when they called. Pick up changed until tomorrow. A wee bit later it was changed to 9 o'clock tonight. Right now I just want to come on board and I was happy to leave the hotel. Nothing wrong with the hotel, but my cabin on board Roy is better. And I can finally open my MAX package.
The driver arrived quarter past 9. By then I had already been to the reception to ask them to call the driver. We packed our stuff and we left the hotel behind. Well, before leaving our driver asked me to take a picture of him. OK. First stop is at the immigration so we clearance to leave the country. This went quicker than expected even though we had to go to two different offices in a big house.
They had set up a shop at the immigration office selling snacks. There was a picture of a Diet Pepsi on the fridge. So I opened the door, instant disappointment.
Our Driver
Full speed towards the jetty, and I mean full speed
Next stop will be at the jetty where we will take a service boat to the anchorage to join Roy Mærsk. It was 20 minutes or so from the immigration office. And we were in the middle of nowhere and we had to climb an old wood plank to get to a boat. And from there we had to climb several boats to reach the boat we were going with.
Pitch dark and safety first. This was a dangerous operation and when we finally were on board the boat I was very relieved, not in my pants even though it had been close a few times. Starting already going full speed down the high way coming here.
And climbing with all the boxes and luggage, I was lucky to have 2 strong guys with me signing on. It will take about one hour to reach m/t Roy Mærsk and we expect to be there around midnight.
