Tiger safari and bird watching in Sundarbans

Sunday 11th of March 2017 and my alarm went off at 4, but I snoozed until 4 thirty. Today they can come and get me in my room. And they knocked on my door at 06:10.
- Are the boat ready? I asked

We left a little late today but it was a gorgeous morning. I enjoyed myself on the fore deck and they were soon bringing tea and biscuits. Breakfast is served at 8 o'clock and lunch at 1 o'clock. We will go to check out the wild boar today to see if there have been any tiger action, or if there is any tiger action when we arrive.

We drive through a narrow channel and it don't take long before we see the first Brown-winged Kingfisher for this time in Sundarban. Sundarban is also full of the Greater Coucal and they are sitting in the top of the trees. They are usually seen on the ground, but as it is mudflats in the area they like to sit in the trees.

There are many birds in the early morning, but this time I'm here for the tigers and I have chosen days to have low water for as long as possible during the day. But during the high water you drive next to the tress and you will have great opportunity to pass close to Kingfishers.

We have seen 6 different Kingfishers in Sundarban:
1) Collared Kingfisher
2) Black-capped Kingfisher
3) Common Kingfisher
4) Brown-winged Kingfisher
5) White-throated Kingfisher
6) Pied Kingfisher

Here should be the Stork-billed Kingfishers as well, but my Guide have seen more tigers than the Stork-billed Kingfisher. So the chance to see the Stork-billed are at least to say slim.

We approach the dead wild boar area when I hear something from the forest. Two or three times and I path my Guide on the back and I point out in the forest. He could hear the sound, most likely a tiger baby. We stop and we drop the anchor. We can hear one low tiger roar, most likely the mother. But after we have dropped the anchor the forest turns silent.

We keep a sharp look out but after 10 minutes we give up and we continue. Just to discover that the wild boar is gone. So the tigers have pulled the wild boar in to the forest and they have most likely finished the wild boar already. We continue towards the narrow channel with the mudflats to see if we can see any more tiger tracks.

At the narrow channel the tiger tracks are gone, erased by the high water. But we saw Indian Pond Heron and a Great Egret. And a Little Cormorant, that was the only excitements the channel had to offer us. We were steaming through the channels and I spotted a Common Redshank. I told Scooby Doothe driver to stop and I was with him during the manoeuvre. He put the wheel ( A wheel connected to two ropes to the rudder tiller in the back) hard to starboard. The boat started to swing. I asked him to stop the engine and to put the wheel hard to port.

Then I told him to give a kick ahead and the swing stopped and we slide quietly almost all the way up to the Redshank. Good, now I have pictures of the Redshank, and I wish we can find a Whimbrel. I have pictures, but I would like some better pictures.

I have plenty pictures of the Great Egret, but now I want to practise taking pictures of birds in flight. We spotted a Great Egret and I waited for the bird to take off. Not a perfect picture, but good enough for me.

The last thing we see before leaving Sajnekhali Wildlife Sanctuary, Sundarban Tiger Reserve is a Lesser Adjutant Stork. Now they want to go fill fresh water again. I told them that they can do it when I'm back at the hotel. Considerate? Yes, now I have finished my safari early every day to give them a chance to fill the fresh water. Well, for sure not what I had expected.

We make a STS (Ship to Ship Transfer) on the way back to the hotel. We need diesel and we will borrow a drum from another ship. I was up front drinking tea while they took on board the diesel.

Red-vented Bulbul at the hotel

Back at the hotel and I took a tour in the garden to look for birds. There was a Red-vented Bulbul and a Spotted Dove. Dinner at 7 and I'm in bed at 10 o'clock so I can get out of bed at 4 o'clock. And tomorrow I will bring my luggage to the boat. Last safari in the morning and we will return to Kolkata in the afternoon. Click HERE to find out if we find any tigers on the last safari.

General election in Sweden September 2018. Sweden is already beyond rescue and this is most likely the last free election in Sweden. They are already changing the “Free speech” laws in Sweden. Censorship and it only show how desperate they are to keep the population in the dark, as by now they have (must have) realised how they have destroyed what might have once been the best country in the world.

State media blasting 24/7 on how well Sweden is doing when it is obvious for everyone how health care, education system, police, judicial system and the welfare state have collapsed.

Where it is now allowed to be married to children, rape is a normal thing that the Police don’t even investigate thanks to the world’s first feminist government. What a sad joke this country have turned in to.

What an embarrassment the Swedish feminist government is
