Monday 15th of May 2017 and I was dead tired when my alarm went off at 7. I ripped open my box with Pepsi MAX and I enjoyed a bottle before going down for breakfast. Now the question is if my taxi will be here at 9. I give the taxi to 9 thirty then I book another taxi.
I had an excellent breakfast in the restaurant with an open kitchen. Good, I could see that it was clean. Same with the room, clean and nice even though it was a wee bit small.
The hotel looked like it was almost new, a little bit off the beaten track, but it was OK. The staff was super friendly. I was in my room when they called me quarter past 9, my taxi was here. So let the adventure begin!
We left on the dirt road leaving Green Terrace Hotel behind us. It was a nice hotel and the breakfast was good. We expect it to take about 6 hours to reach Laya Safari Hotel in Yala. My Pepsi MAX was in the back of the car, easily accessible from the back seat.

We left Green Terrace Hotel in Negombo. We drove on highway E03 to Colombo. When we reached Colombo we were on a normal road for a few km until we reached highway E01. A new highway and we drove on E01 until the and at Matara.
I had expected Sri Lanka to be like India, but I was surprised, it was like driving on the roads in Europe. No garbage around and the roads was in excellent condition. It was a pleasure to drive through the beautiful landscape.
When we reached Matara there was no more highway and we had to drive on road A2 along the coast to Yala. We passed many many Cattle Egrets and other egrets. I saw two Kingfishers.
I saw a tuk tuk coming slowly along the road, we were going to overtake when the tuk tuk ran in to a lorry. The truck driver ran out and he was surprised, no driver in the tuk tuk.

WARNING
We stopped at Shangri La to have a late lunch, excellent food and we felt good when we continued towards Laya Safari in Karinda. We passed warning signs about elephants, of course I didn't take any pictures. But I found a picture on the internet. I never saw any elephants and the driver told me that they only came out during the night.
It was very nice when we were finally arrived to Laya Safari hotel. I was soon in my room enjoying a Pepsi MAX. The room was very nice but the hotel is in need of some maintenance, painting etc. And the lawn was mostly sand. Well, I will spend most of the time in a jeep looking for leopards.

Well, they had to come to put up a bulb over my desk as it was very dark in the room and impossible to work with the computer. And to work with the computer is essential trying to identify birds I expect to see during the safaris.
Diet, yes, after our lunch at Shangri La I decided to get serious and I asked for fruit salad for dinner. They brought a bowl of fruit salad and a pot of tea to my room.
Well, the alarm is set to go off at 5 tomorrow morning, and they will come to pick me up at 5 thirty. So, finally time to get out in the wild again. Click HERE to see how this turns out.
OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
