Aladdin's adventure Yala National Park - Block 1

Safari on Sri Lanka

Aladdin's adventure Yala National Park - Block 1
Wednesday 24rd of May 2017 and it is time for the last safari here in Yala, for this time. Who knows? I might be back as it have been fantastic. We went through the normal procedures, stop to buy the ticket. There was already a long queue of Guides/ Drivers waiting for them to open.

When we were at the gate we had to wait for a few minutes at the gate before they opened the gate at 6 o'clock. A beautiful morning, yet again. It was a little difference today as it had been raining during the night. We were soon leaving the “MAIN” dirt track and we went “off road” to look for leopards. Again, should be a perfect day for leopards as it was cool and nice. No wind blowing sand in their eyes so we expected a lot of action.

No leopards to be seen, but we saw quite a few birds. I managed to get a picture of the Blue-faced malkohas. I have seen quite a few Blue-faced malkohas during my days in Yala. But always in the bushes and the bird was gone very quickly.

Many birds are sitting on eggs, but they are not easy to get on photo as they are behind twigs and leaves. Time to go back to the hotel and they will pick me up at 3 o'clock for transportation to the airport in Colombo. A 6 hour journey that I can't say that I'm looking forward to.

Rain during the night so it was not so much dust in the air from the jeeps running down the dust roads. It was a really enjoyable morning even though I only had 1 bottle of MAX Or maybe it was so enjoyable just because of that.

9 thirty and we were slowly moving back towards the gate. The company called and we agreed that they should come to pick me up at the hotel at 3 o'clock.

Last picture from Yala National Park

We stopped at the gate and my Driver/ Guide asked for my mobile camera and he took a picture of me in the jeep. Then we took off to Laya Safari Hotel. And when we were on the last stretch of dirt road to the hotel when I spotted an Indian Roller sitting on the wire. A bonus picture, the last bird photo from Sri Lanka?

We will see what we will see on the road going back to Colombo International Airport and the end of my adventure here on Sri Lanka. I have seen many many birds. 6 or 7 leopards, but I only count three of them. The first one laying on the rock. And the two mating leopards. The rest of them, well, covered by bushes so no good sighting even if the leopards were very close.

Last bird picture? Will we stop at Shangri La for lunch/ Dinner? A what I call, yeah, not brunch but Lunner. And most important of all, will I make it to the airport? You just need to click HERE to find out! More adventures ahead!
