Saturday 20th of May 2017 and I was really happy when I saw the jeep approaching a few minutes before 2 thirty. The break had been the best idea I have come up with. And now I was really eager to get out in the track again. I was in a real good mood. Shower, a few hours in the AC and a really good lunch. So yes, let’s go look for the wild life in Yala.

A beautiful, very beautiful bird and I only get this shitty picture. A big disappointment!
It had been a wonderful afternoon in the national park. We had seen many birds, but I had not managed to get any good pictures. We also saw elephants playing in the mud, my videos turned out to be nothing but, well, shit. But we saw 2 Golden Jackals and that was nice. The very same jackals they blamed the closed birding area in Bombay for.
We saw the Black-necked stork and there are not many of them here on Sri Lanka. If I remember it right they had counted 12 birds last year. But they have them in Australia and I saw the Black-necked stork in Australia. Anyway, it is a beautiful stork, but it was very far away.
We started to drive back towards the gate. Time to call it a day. Shower and fruit salad back at Laya Safari Hotel. We approached the gate and we saw a lot of the jeeps on the road. A leopard? The only thing that makes the car pile-up on the dust road.
Many of the drivers/ Guides are amazing. They had spotted a leopard through the bushes while driving by. This is our second leopard today, but I only count the leopard from this morning. This one, is fully visible, but through the bushes. Nah, I only count one leopard today.

Changeable Hawk-eagle or Crested hawk-eagle
Drinking water when we pass the water hole
A beautiful day have come to an end and it is time to go back to the hotel
We left the leopard behind and we passed a Changeable Hawk-eagle/ Crested hawk-eagle. The Changeable Hawk-eagle or Crested hawk-eagle was sitting on the ground drinking from the waterhole. Of course, we had to stop and look at this beauty. Amazing the amount of eagles they have here in the park.
And they are sitting very low and it is almost like you have to step back to get them to fit in the frame when taking pictures. Well, evening was spent in my room drinking tea eating fruit salad while checking out my pictures from today.
Tomorrow morning, pick up at 5 thirty and you don't need to wake up at this time. You just need to click HERE to find out what we found in the wilderness. I hope for a few of the birds I'm missing, and of course, if we see a leopard or a bear it would be nice.
OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
