Road trip on Fiji - Taxi from Nadi to Colo-i-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort

Road trip on Fiji

Wednesday 11th of October 2017 and I got in and took my seat in the back. I had enough Pepsi MAX to last me for a few hours. The driver told me that it would take “about” 2 hours to reach Colo-i-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort. Well, I have planned for an afternoon bird watching Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st but as it is not the first time I cross a country in a taxi I knew better than to expect us to arrive after 2 hours. So I will take the day as it comes.

We left Nadi International Airport and we stopped at a petrol station to change driver. We took off and I enjoyed the ride in the back looking at the views.

Fiji is dry on the West side and on the East side they have rain forest and rain. My driver is from Suva and I asked him why he moved to Nadi. He told me that it was always raining in Suva and the big city stress was nothing for him, so he moved to Nadi.

Population

The 2007 census found that the permanent population of Fiji was 837,000.

At the 2007 census, the city of Suva had a population of 85,691. Including independent suburbs, the population of the Greater Suva urban area was 172,399 at the 2007 census.[2] Suva, along with the bordering towns of Lami, Nasinu, and Nausori have a total urban population of around 330,000, over a third of the nation's population. This urban complex (not including Lami) is known also as the Suva–Nausori corridor.

Sitting in the back enjoying myself and I was really grateful that I had given up the idea to take the bus to Suva. This is a wee bit more expensive, but way way more comfortable. And I can stop whenever I want. We passed a Heron on the beach so I asked the driver to do a U-turn.

It was a Pacific Reef Heron (Dark morph) I got a few pictures from the car but I wanted to come closer. I left the car and I went down on the beach. The bird had disappeared already when I got out of the car. But I ran into the bird again, but it was off before I could get a picture.

we were soon on our way again and I realise that my e-cig is missing. Must have felt out of my shirt pocket. I discovered the hole when I had passed security back at Vava'u International Airport. After security and my e-cig felt through my pocket and hit the floor with a BOOM! There was no hole when I left the shirt for laundry so something must have happened. Anyway, I told the driver to turn around and I went on the beach to look for my e-cig.

Falling out hitting the sand and I have not noticed that I lost my e-cig. I walked around following my old foot prints. I was lucky and I found my smoker and I was happy.

I was in a good mood when I was back in the back seat. I had a sip of MAX while we took off continuing towards Suva. I enjoyed the ride watching the views in the back seat. Having a good time even though I had realised that we would not make it to Colo-i-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort in 2 hours. My afternoon bird watching will have to be cancelled, but there will be enough time for bird watching in Suva so no problem.

I decided to go to some Supermarket to look for smoked salmon instead. I was told the Supermarkets close at 7 or 8 and I really hope we make it in time for that.

Arriving to the hotel, finally! Happy elephant

I got the key to my room. I opened the door. WOW! What a room! A disappointment! No desk! No tea machine! (The older I get the more comfortable I get staying in my room drinking tea, no more night life) Will I be able to live here for 3 nights? I turned around. WOW! My balcony was just over the lake, what a beautiful view! I needed to go to the bathroom as I was about to wet my pants after all the Pepsi MAX coming here. I was looking around, no bathroom.

I screamed after the guy that had helped me with the luggage through the window but he could not hear me. I went down to the reception.
- There is no bathroom in my room
- You have shared bathroom
- Over my dead body!
- You live in a budget room
- I'm allergic to budget, I said giving him my credit card.
- Can you please upgrade me to a room with bathroom and a tea machine?

I got a “bure” with everything. Only problem was that the bed was on the loft. But the bure was the closest room they had to the reception, good.

They called a taxi for me and I went to Damodar City Centre, a shopping centre with a supermarket and restaurants recommended by the hotel staff. I didn't found any smoked salmon so I bought 10 Camembert cheeses and milk plus 4 bags of oatmeal. Breakfast starts at 7 and by then I'm long gone on bird watching. So I will have my breakfast in my “bure”

Nice to be able to sit and enjoy the early morning in my bure with a cup or two of Earl Grey tea. I needed cash and I went to look for a ATM. Yes, in the third word, but the Scooby Doo dollars Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stdisappearing like they are on fire. I had to walk around before I found an ATM accepting “international” cards. Now I had cash and I was hungry.

I went to look for a restaurant and I found Bad Dog Cafe. First I thought it was a bar, but I saw the word restaurant and I asked if I could have dinner there. No problem and I went inside

I ordered something with spinach to start with, they sent bruschetta, but it was very good. And I never thought I would say this, the pizza was OK, but too much cheese. The chocolate mousse and the extra whipped cream was excellent so I had more than one of those.

I was full when I took a taxi back “home” and it was straight to bed as we will start at 6 o'clock tomorrow morning. My alarm is set to go off at 5 o'clock.

Don't you worry! More on the way!

To find out if we see any birds tomorrow you just need to click HERE. Will we see any Pink-billed parrotfinches? I really hope so.
